I went briefly through Travis as part of the treatment/evacuation flow out of Vietnam: Charlie Med Danang, Clark AFB hospital, Tachikawa AFB hospital, Yokosuka Naval hospital, Travis and then Camp Pendleton Naval hospital.

One funny story out of our passage through Travis is that my Radio Operator, Gary Richards had been blinded, deafened and had one arm broken and one leg broken by a mine. While they were carrying his stretcher through Travis, one eye opened partially and he saw the first girl he had ever seen in a miniskirt.

He used his good hand and arm to force the other eye open so he could look at her. Turned out that it was just sand blown into his eyes and he completely recovered (even was featured as a contractor later for This Old House).

First recorded miracle of the miniskirt!
