Yes, which I now realize I should have responded to MNdude directly.
I just happened to click on the "reply" to the wrong one, and have apologized.
I got a little ticked off at being called a military avoider, or something like that.
3. Militias are a bad joke: really think that Clem with his AR-15 clone is going close with and destroy a T-80?
—
to say nothing of closing on a T-14 Armata or an SU-35 ... stupidity knows no bounds ...
That would mean full timers, paid by the corporation or wealthy person as needed for the highly technical positions.
And who set the standards for all these idiosyncratic corporations and wealthy individuals who cannot make money unless they are at war?
You do know that the wealthiest corporations are lefties, and the wealthiest individuals are trust-funded lefties also?
Foolish idea - if something isn’t broken, don’t try to fix it.
At “nato borders”? Lol we expanded NATO east until we bumped into them, then called that “nato’s borders”.
Globalists have a wonderful sense of humor.
And Venezuela has hosted iranian bad guys.
A fair interpretation of the 2nd Amendment paraphrases as: “a standing army, being a necessary evil for the security of a free nation, ...”. The Founding Fathers _wanted_ a competent citizen militia capable of repelling any invading force, and were understandably distrustful of professional armies largely subject to those in power, but grudgingly acknowledged the former could not be expected sufficient, and the latter needed for more deliberate & foreign actions. Better to take the fight to the enemy’s lands, than to let it come here before resisting.
_Should_ everyone have access to whatever arms, broadly defined, they can afford? Yes. Surely those affording high-end equipment will better understand the grave consequences of misuse, and best that all be ready to go without necessitating equipping & training upon short notice.
_Can_ we expect the populace be suitably armed & trained for major modern warfare, foreign and domestic? No. The money & commitment won’t be there on a large enough scale without tax-level funding and professional (paid) commitment. We may be able to create a decent approximation, but you’re just not going to get the financial interest needed to fund it voluntarily.
And remember that much outside our borders is of immediate & direct interest to us. We cannot idly sit on our side of the pond waiting for ISIS to show up, when they rampage thru the Middle East unopposed and cut off much of world oil supply; seems the USA is the only one with a capable military & sufficient interest in actually eviscerating them. Likewise we cannot just ignore NK as they commit all to goading us into a war, can’t let China resume their multi-millennia goal of dominating Asia, must hold USSR out of Europe, etc.
I appreciate the isolationist-militia sentiment; don’t think it’s realistic without serious unpleasant consequences.
We only need is one sharp shooter.
Militias were not a bad joke. A rifle armed militia is the single most effective national defense ever made. Not good for foreign adventures, but perfect in defense.
Our revolution is one example. The Swiss were untouched in both world wars. Such a militia has pinned us down in the middle East for 16 years. And the problem for the T-80 us how does he find and end rifle resistance.
No sane militia man would ever shoot at a T-80. You shoot the driver when he gets out to take a piss or the fuel truck driver who’s in his unarmored vehicle delivering fuel.
“who set the standards for all these idiosyncratic corporations and wealthy individuals who cannot make money unless they are at war?”
That’s the crux of the problem with the pure-militia argument (which I’m deeply sympathetic to): a ready military is _very_ expensive to operate, unlikely to receive capitalist support unless it can deliver great value directly thru its existence & use. You’d end up with a large mercenary company, rampaging thru the world seizing assets and giving others cause to declare war on us. Napoleon effectively ran his own impressive private military, largely driven by it having to fund & feed itself and doing so by rolling over neighboring countries & consuming what it could confiscate; expect comparable capability from the likes of Blackwater/Xe and you’ll get it taking over Congo, Canada, and Columbia (might improve some areas, but not what we want from a “citizen militia” paradigm).
That must be why we withdrew all our M1 tanks from Iraq, because they were so effective at ending a rifle armed resistance. There was a scene in red dawn where the girl leaves a bomb in the enemy bar. It blows... And a tank rumbles up to the scene. It traverses its main gun around. There is nothing to shoot at.
of course we always need a strong military. My point was asking if Trump is alluding to something large that is impending.
Actually shot at and hit: spent almost a year in the hospital.
The difficult part is waiting until they're not shooting at you to do it.
Our militia history - particularly during our Revolution - and the War of 1812 - was lousy. Infamous for cutting and running when the shooting started.
We are a world power. We have no choice but to have the best-equipped and trained people on Earth to keep us safe and free.
There is no alternative - and the militia would only be a last-ditch part of the end game. I've seen the other guys at the rifle range and I wouldn't count on them for anything.
Wow! Your first post sure didn't read that way... Sorry about the ferocity of my response. I have spent the majority of my life readying our young people to fight and win our nation's battles - it' a sensitive subject to me.
Or set a fuel-filled trap for the tank and cook the contents.
So it seems all we really need are full ranks of bomb throwing girls ... What do you know! ... Will they be wearing pink heels? Or perhaps with white tutus also? With all the LGBT-AZDXEs joining and the absolute lowering of standards there should be no problem recruiting 35-40 year old moms for the Rangers en mass ...

Again, my respects to you.
For you it was the "real" military, for me, overall, just a job.
I hope you have recovered completely.
While I have never been among "them that's been shot at", I was in the hospital at Travis for a couple of months among some of those who have.
Also was there when our POWs returned from Vietnam.
Those guys, as you, went through a hell that I am glad I didn't.
Nope. Because we have decided to fight wars around ther planet, and almost continuously, against a wide variety of enemies. That’s 90% elective.
But to -defend- a nation against invasion, you need little more than a rifle armed militia.
