I detest the Red Cross. I think, and have long thought, they are crooked as the day is long.

I prefer the Salvation Army over them any day of the week.

I will always remember, back in 1970, hearing from a co-worker who had been in the Vietnam War, that the Red Cross came out to the war zone he and his company were in, and SOLD them doughnuts and coffee.

That was the first time I had heard anything negative about the Red Cross. It had a huge impact on me.

My father told me the same thing happened during WWII in Europe. He always hated the Red Cross.

I guess President Donald J. Trump’s December 21st Emergency EO on corruption would apply.

I remember hearing that too about WWII and the Salvation Army gave it to them for free.

My father said the same thing about the Red Cross on Okinawa in WWII.

They sell the blood the donated blood on the commodities market. All those volunteers organizing local blood drives and people who give blood are just working for free to further enrich the Red Cross.

They recruit heavily at high schools and when my son turned sixteen he donated blood. He had to give a phone number so he gave them my cell number. I got constant calls for financial donations so I blocked that caller. Had a few months respite until calls began again from Red Cross using a different number; blocked that one, too.

My father told me when he was using a boat in a flood area in California to find victims, the Red ?Cross was selling the searchers donuts and coffee. What do their donations do?

“the Red Cross came out to the war zone he and his company were in, and SOLD them doughnuts and coffee.”.........

Happened in WWII as well. Nothing new there, hence my NEVER giving to the Red Cross.

If you want to make donations, give to your local Lions Clubs. Dubious? Check them out.

My grandad was telling me about this heavy rain/flash flooding in Kansas City back in the late 50’s - the RC had set up trailers to sell coffee and donuts to the flood workers. The Salvation Army girls came to where the guys were sandbagging, covered in mud and gave out coffee and donuts. They even wore skirts!

had a friend whos parents were high officials on the state level for the red cross. they got promoted to the national level and quit because of what they saw going on in DC wit the organization. They knew about the corruption before they got promoted but did not realize how bad it all was. The organization is used in Washington as a way of rewarding bureaucrat with high paying jobs after retirement for favors within government.

Even though I feel this to be true, it is disconcerting to hear more concrete evidence in your posts...:(

For those who aren’t aware - the Red Cross has also been under a Consent Decree from the FDA related to their blood activities.

Basically they can’t test it and get the results faster than they process it for use. FDA doesn’t want to shut it down due to the impact it would have on the demand. So instead has basically implemented notification protocols if the tests come back bad.

I would highly recommend that if you are having anything done that requires blood other than a catastrophic emergency that you arrange to have your own blood drawn prior to be used specifically for your procedure. Most doctors and hospitals will help you arrange this and you can confirm it is yours prior to the procedure.

I worked with a retired Marine who told me he survived a Sikorsky H-34 Choctaw helicopter crash in Vietnam. He told me he was billed for blood from the Red Cross. I have been wary of them ever since.
