Oprah Winfrey Asks Powerful Hollywood Women About Woody Allen in Time's Up Interview
Hollywood Reporter ^ | 1/14/2018 | Ryan Parker

Winfrey sat down with Reese Witherspoon, Kathleen Kennedy, Natalie Portman, America Ferrera, Nina Shaw, Tracee Ellis Ross and producer Shonda Rhimes to discuss the impact their campaign has had in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

Among the topics discussed during a CBS Sunday Morning segment hosted by Oprah Winfrey on the Time's Up initiative was director and accused sexual predator Woody Allen.

Winfrey sat down with Reese Witherspoon, Kathleen Kennedy, Natalie Portman, America Ferrera, attorney Nina Shaw, Tracee Ellis Ross and producer Shonda Rhimes to discuss the impact their campaign has had in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. Of the topics discussed, Allen was brought up due to a series of tweets by Dylan Farrow during last weekend's Golden Globes in which she said she hoped Allen's time would have been up by now. Farrow has accused Allen of molesting her. Allen has denied the accusations.

"What would you want to say to her?" Winfrey asked the women.

"I hope so," said Rhimes. "You know, I'll be honest. I don't know about anybody else, but I hope so."

Kennedy added, "I'd like to believe that time's up for silence. We can start there."

Winfrey asked the powerful Hollywood women, "How do we as a society have a mature, nuanced conversation about how men and women should be relating to each other? Because there's so many men and women now who are uncomfortable in their workplaces because of all that's been uncovered and aren't just really sure how to be. What do we say to them?"

"We're humans. We're all humans," Portman said. "And I think it's treating people as fellow humans and — and it's not because you have a daughter that you respect a woman, it's not because you have a wife or a sister, it's because we're human beings, whether we're related to a man or not. We deserve the same respect." During the Golden Globes, while presenting for best director, Portman called out the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for selecting "all male" nominees in that category.

So she mentions Allen, but not a friend of hers accused of far worse?

One of those Star Panel interviews, where the actresses bring their own box of pastel hued, perfumed, pre-moistened tissues.

Well, Woody would have done the right thing and married her, but he was already married to her sister.

Incest is best. Ask any Democrat...

So we need affirmative action for women directors?

I read that about 85-90% of directors in Hollywood are men.

They can have a navel gazing session about why so few women move into that end of the movie business. But, given those numbers, it’s not shocking that all the nominees would be men.

it’s because we’re human beings, whether we’re related to a man or not.

Doesn’t she have a dad, I mean a male father, since nowadays you have to specify that? As well as male brothers, uncles, cousins, etc? Does she mean to imply that huge numbers of women have no male relatives?

I’m sure liberal icons such as Oprah will lecture us. There will be no nuanced conversation, because as soon as someone takes any issue with Oprah, he will be condemned as a sexist irredeemable and condemned. Then the conversation will end.

It won’t be a conversation. It will be a lecture pushed on us by the likes of Oprah and Whoopi Goldberg, telling us how we should behave.

The "debate" on global warming is over, so says Al Gore.

The "conversation" on gender relations is over, so says Oprah.

The Left in this country just want to impose their views on people that disagree with them.

Saying we can no longer discuss the merits of the situation, allows them to make their opposition look unreasonable and demanding.

And it unilaterally forces their views on everybody else as being mainstream and the PC thing to say.

Shutting down the voice of the opposition like good little commies do.

Well said.

The left frequently say they want some dialogue or discussion. But what they really want is to shut down dialogue, shut down and shout down those whom they perceive as irredeemable.

Hillary’s screed about irredeemable racist sexist homophobic etc should be a lesson for all of us. Hillary encapsulated the leftist works view in that moment.

Yeah, they've gone so far done the road to diversity, that they have no choice but to brand each group, pit them against each other and count the victims and offended as their voters.

I'm a white, heterosexual, Christian male.

Right off the bat, the Left categorizes me as a racist, sexist, misogynist, homophobic, islamaphobic killer. Oh, I forgot to say I am former military who owns guns. That's where the killer part comes in.

There is absolutely no place in the Left's huge expanse of diversity playbook for me. I don't check off enough boxes for their party.

So they call me a deplorable Trump voter.

Which is just fine with me.
