Jeff Bezos is now the richest man EVER: Amazon CEO's fortune rockets <tr>

Jeff Bezos, the newly minted richest man in the world, is now the wealthiest person of all-time after his fortune soared to new heights.

Shares in Amazon hit an all-time high on Monday, which lifted Bezos’ net worth to a record $105.1billion, according to Bloomberg.

That figure eclipses the $100billion worth that Microsoft boss Bill Gates amassed back in April 1999.

In the last 12 months, Amazon’s stock has climbed by nearly 57 per cent.

So far in 2018, the e-commerce giant’s shares have jumped 6.6 per cent.

Amazon continued its dominance over the recent holiday period, grabbing 89 per cent of the online spending market among retailers.

Bezos’ peak net worth is more than that of Bill Gates, the Microsoft co-founder who crossed the $93billion mark this week.

According to Bloomberg, Gates could easily be worth over $150billion were it not for the hundreds of millions of shares in Microsoft as well as the billions in cash and other assets he has given away to charity.

Aside from Amazon, Bezos is also the owner of The Washington Post.

As of Tuesday just before noon, shares of Amazon were trading at $1,247.91.

Full title: Jeff Bezos is now the richest man EVER: Amazon CEO's fortune rockets to record-breaking $105BILLION after shares hit an all-time high

Jeff must really be thankful to the Trump administration for creating so much new wealth. I'm sure the WP will have an editorial on it any day now.

I wish I had that type of success.

But Bezos has always been known as an arrogant hard ass with staff and partners, and I dont think I could be that person.

Yet Amazon pays virtually no taxes.

And Bezos and his mouthpiece the WaPo argue for more taxes on the little people.

I have a friend who worked for Amazon. He is a retired Colonel and a very smart guy. He didn’t last 6 months at Amazon before he quit. He said that Amazon management expected him to treat employees like slaves and as lesser human beings. He thought the cut throat, work insane hours, get ahead at all costs approach that everyone seemed to exhibit came from everyone emulating Bezos and following his lead.

Do I wish I had $105 Billion? Sure. But I wouldn’t sell my soul for it.

While some of his employees are on food stamps and the US Postal Service goes bankrupt because of the discounts it gives Amazon.

Pathetic.

“John D Rockefeller was worth 600 billion in today’s money.”

Although the lifestyle of welfare Willy of today is much more luxurious than that of Rockefeller

Having billions in stock is an interesting thing. He surely has so much that if he ever tried to sell it in large quantities he would drive the price into the toilet. To get the money out at something close to full value he'd have to sell it in small blocks over a long period of time so as not to distort the market. Large institutional holders do something like that when they decide to sell something they have large holdings of. So his portfolio is worth that but if he tried to get to it, it's worth would plummet.

It's a nice problem to have, I'm sure. The thing that must really eat him up is that this huge gain in value is thanks to Trump, who he apparently despises based on his Washington Post.

Yeah. Up to a point, you own your fortune. After that, your fortune owns you. But as you say, it’s a nice problem to have.
