...oddly we were discussing mellotrons and their use in the Moody Blues in an earlier thread today.
Lovely music...Tuesday Afternoon...I can hear the flute...
Rock and Roll HOF sucks.
Another Knight, ready to don all his White Satin.
I’ve had all their albums from DOFP through Seventh Sojourn in my collection since the beginning. Vinyl first and then cassette and now CD.
His Legend Of A Mind was always one of my favorites.
RIP Ray Thomas.
Im feeling old.

Weren’t they pretty anti-America?

“Im feeling old.”
You’re not alone. Every time a music or film or TV star from yesteryear dies I see the world I grew up in diminish getting smaller year after year. It can be downright depressing.
despite the fact Ray has been retired from the group for a dozen years, it’s a sad day for those of us who have been huge fans of this great band...
a long discussion about Ray and the Moody Blues in a different FR thread: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3620263/posts
Seventh Sojourn is one of the great albums of all time...the second side of that album matches up with just about any album pressed to vinyl...
IIRC, they were the number one rock and roll band in the world from about a decade. After Days Of Future Past was released.
Last year, I attended my 50th high school reunion in Tempe, AZ. I had extra time and drove to Las Vegas and saw the Moodies live in concert at the Venetian.
They were better than I had hoped for. Great concert on their 50th anniversary tour.
They are my favorite R&R band ever. One of the few bands with songs you can understand the lyrics too.
My opinion about the R&RHOF is that they should have been inducted decades ago. They were so different than any other band with the use of the mellotron that purists said they weren't really R&R. Really?
I have been listening to their greatest hits CD in my pick-up for years now. Figured out a while back that I can't get it out. Eject doesn't activate.
Best bad luck I've had in a long time.
May Ray Thomas RIP. He was a classic along with Jethro Tull in playing a R&R flute.
not in the least...not even close...
I’ve seen the Moodies almost 25 times since 1978 including October, 2001, a month after 9-11...they changed the lyrics to one of their songs, sung by drummer Graeme Edge (who now lives in Bradenton, Florida)to let everyone know how pissed off they were about the 3000+ people murdered that day...
the original key boardist, Mike Pinder, lives in northern California..
Knew a guy that saw them in England. He said one of them was trashing America.
Funny.
I am not a fan of the Moody Blues other than the 1981 Album “Long Distance Voyager” I absolutely love that album, one of my top 5 favorite albums.
That being said Ray Thomas was the lead singer on this particular track from that 1981 album.
I know that John Lodge has been a devout Christian for years.
Agreed, although my personal favorite is DOFP...still have distinct memories of sitting in smoke filled rooms nearly fifty years ago listening to Isn’t Life Strange.
long time, unapologetic Christian...he did a Christmas song on the “December” album that had a lot of Christian reflections...
both Lodge and Justin Hayward are still married to the women they wed in their 20’s...I actually sat behind Ldoge’s wife, son, daughter in law (very hot) and grandson (he was n more than 2YO) when i went to see the Moodies (with my mom) at Radio City right around 2007...
I hate when I’m the dupe post guy.
Following FR all day, thought I had the scoop.
