A long time ago, for me at least, the activity tab would show me which thread was trending (i.e. being commented on the most). This is why I think, people used to just put “ping” in their comment and put nothing else in it. This caused the thread to stay at the top of the activity list for others to comments on.

I thought it was the same as the comments tab, but apparently not.
Looks empty and meaningless.
Don’t hit that button! If you do it creates a black hole that will destroy the universe!
These aren't the Tabs you're looking for.
You can go about your business.
Move along.
I clicked the tab and got this:
Your query returned no results.
Isn’t the “Activity” tab the NSA’s link to every freepers postings?...only NSA can see it
OMG, if it isn't I'm in deep dodo...
Are you sure you are logged on? :)
The activity tab appears to be vestigial like an appendix. I’ve accidentally hit it numerous times in the past and gotten no results from my query.
However, I “learned” FR on the comments tab and stay there, it’s much more entertaining to see all comments in the order that they’ve occurred. I get exposure to topics I’d have never clicked on, on the basis of the headline and brief excerpt.
To the downside, you’ll see a lot of stuff you’re not interested in too, on the comments tab, since you’re seeing them all. It’s also very, very easy to drag a thread off topic, since you’re not really looking at the topic but the comments and possibly have never even seen the topic of the thread, just the title with the most recent comment.
Setting preferences to just “Articles” is boring to me, I’d miss most of the fun.
Well, Ive only been here almost 19 years and only now ever looked in that tab. So when you, old timer, learn what it is, please tell me. I want more activity!
I did not know there was a activity tab.
I just went looking for it and don’t even know where it is haha..
Im a button pusher. You dont know what it is until you push it.
Learn it, live it, love it.
Unless its some kind of alarm system. That can be awkward.
