I’ve been bouncing that idea around mentally for years.
Like a partner?
Or dog crap.
Dog crap is much better than that thing. The porch pirate will be laughing about the little scare in just a moment and be entertained by the whole event.
Have a snare or net trap that also sets off blaring siren and flashing lights and auto calls police who can come and empty your trap... extra enhancements could be added...
I knew a guy who suspected his neighbor was stealing firewood. He drilled a large hole in one piece and inserted a shotgun shell.
The piece disappeared. He told me the neighbor never mentioned it but a few days later, his wood stove was at the curb on trash day.
Interesting approach!
There are so many 'bait packages' out there, I can't imagine being a thief and taking that risk. These fellows have turned it into an art form.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OY0T7B_coTY
there was a newspaper guy in Cincinnati back in the day named Frank Weikel and during the Christmas season he wrapped up his garbage every day, left in his unlocked car at the Enquirer building and reported in the paper when it was stolen. Most every day it was.
I was thinking the other day that any new homes being built would have a small locked door that opens up to a storage. Once a delivery guy arrives, the camera would activate a ring to the owner's cell phone and she/he would be able to open it remotely...all the time watching and conversing with the delivery person, asking for identification etc. This approach will likely mean much higher delivery costs though because it will take longer. I was talking to a driver for a courier (think it was UPS) the other day and the number of deliveries they make a day absolutely blew me away. Clearly anything that slows them down will mean that delivery charges will go up....
So the would-be criminal falls and hurts himself and ends up owning your home...
That was my idea when I was working in Manhattan during a garbage strike (1969-70-71?)...gift wrap it and it's gone!
That’s mighty gracious of ya, podner! I’ll try to return the hospitality in kind on down the road.
Thinking a swarm of bees might be interesting.
Be even funnier if you could post it on YouTube
