I remember that one film clip:
“I’ve had enough of all your sh$t,
New York, New York!”
Classic.

Congrats! My family left NY when I was a kid, and after visiting family there several times, I’m so glad we moved!

Well I see you have already changed the state flag on your homepage. That has to feel good.

We are in the same age range... sold my house in October of ‘88 (when IBM was rehiring in the Hudson Valley) and escaped to Columbia County, outside of Augusta, Georgia. Low taxes, mild weather and built a huge pool for the hot summers. Welcome to The Good Life!

Good for you!! And best of luck!! What part of S.C. have you settled in? I had thoughts of moving to the James Island area years ago, before I retired in 2003. I had friends who lived there at the time. They were involved in preserving historic sites (mostly Civil War) in that area. They eventually moved to Savannah, Ga. I gave up the dream because my kids were still in NY State, and because I learned that S.C. would tax my pension. I’m still here in central NY, about a half hour east of Syracuse. One son lives in Troy, NY. The other moved to Indianapolis almost 4 years ago.

"They dont tell you the two months you cant eat outdoors is July and August."
I had friends who lived across the bridge from Charleston on James Island. The first time I planned to visit, I wanted to camp out at Edisto State Park. They told me the best time to go to S.C. was in October, because by then the pesky little biting flies were usually all gone.

I escaped from New Jersey in 1988 and moved to Texas. In the interim I spent 10 years in Minnesota - job related. It reminded me of why I left the NYC area. I got homesick and returned to Texas.
Aaaaah Texas......it’s a whole other country......;)
