Couple adopts seven brothers and sisters who were split up in three separate foster homes

A Florida couple just became a family of nine after adopting seven children - all brothers and sisters and all at once!

Sofia and Dashoan Olds said they always knew they might adopt some day, according to Today.

The Olds said once they saw a news story about the siblings, it just felt right to adopt.

"I like to say I felt like it was a calling. Honestly, when I saw that picture, it was automatic.""There was no question, if they allow us to adopt these children, we will do it," said Sofia. "I like to say I felt like it was a calling. Honestly, when I saw that picture, it was automatic."

And, as it turns out, the couple could not have been more prepared.

Both served in the military and were deployed to Iraq. Today, Dashoan is a math teacher and Sofia is a social worker.

Now, the seven brothers and sisters, who lived in three separate foster homes, are together under one roof permanently.

"I never actually had a mom and dad under the same roof. But it feels great," said son Eric. "It's like they're both a half of something, like peanut butter and jelly."

What a challenging thing to do ... but wow, that’s some heroic virtue. I hope it works out for all of them.

What a great looking couple... both served in Iraq. Kids all look like they have taken to this couple as their natural Mom and Dad and look very grateful. God bless them all.

May God shower blessings on this family. I’m so impressed that two people would undertake something like this, but with a military background courage was a given.

I have a friend who was adopted, along with her sister and 3 brothers, into a family that already had “kids” (as some were about 15 years older.)

Last time I had talked to her, her parents were in the process of adopting 2 more kids. A 5 year old girl and 8 year old boy.

Her mom was 50 at the time.
Her dad was 67.

Mom and dad had gone to the rest of the family to seek their approval...as the dad would be 80 years old, when the girl would graduate high school, and chances are needing the adult kids to help out.

All the kids agreed that they should do it and that all the kids would be there for the younger ones.

With the 2 youngsters added, between biological and adopted kids, there was a total of 26 kids in the family. Aged 43 to 5.

Through the years they had had 115 foster kids through their home.

All the “kids” felt very blessed to be apart of the family and to extend that blessing to others.

It’s a challenge. There was an article in last weekend’s Wall Street Journal about a New Mexico family who had one child of their own and then adopted five more out of the foster system. Unfortunately, the challenge of rearing these children ended the marriage when the biological son was only 13 and the adopted children as young as 2. The mother had to go it alone; she was a writer for New Mexico newspapers.

The biological son died of a heroin overdose. Some of the others also had drug problems.

An advantage for this family is that all their adopted children are siblings. The article doesn’t say how long they were in foster care or any other information, but maybe they’re not too traumatized, and it will work out for them as well as a family with seven (or more) biological children ... which is maximum entropy, but it’s spectacular, too.

#14: "This Gator is cheering them."

Yep. If only there were hundreds (thousands?) more parents as ready, willing, and able. The need is almost unfathomable.

To say the least.

Very remarkable family.

Anyone who adopts is remarkable.
