A stunning shot of an orangutan crossing an Indonesia river has been named the winner of a prestigious nature photography award.
The shot, by Singapore photographer Jayaprakash Joghee Bojan, was selected as the winner of the 2017 National Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year contest. He has won $10,000 and will have his winning image published in an upcoming issue of National Geographic magazine and featured on the @NatGeo Instagram account.
Mr Bojan captured the dramatic image while wading in five feet of water in the Sekoyner River in Tanjung Puting National Park in Borneo.

Fascinating about the “still-life” pic.
But you can’t trust a picture anymore! It used to be that a photograph was the last word, then along came photoshopping. Now this. Is it good or bad?

I’m putting together a photography ping list. If anyone is interesting in getting on it, please let me know.

I agree. I have not been to the Nat Geo site to see what the requirements were for submissions but after the whole Steve McCurry debacle one has to wonder if they even make distinctions between photojournalism and pretty pictures with post-editing or staging.
There’s a place in the world for edited photos but I appreciate it more when they are advertised as such. When I used to shoot and develope 35mm I would dodge and bird, play with exposure and such but that was a different part of the artistic process and I would never try to play that off as SOOC work.

Would love to be added to the ping list!
Thanks!
