Man says cops ordered him to cut off his dog’s head or go to jail

Nate Goodwin says Crawford County deputies told him he needed to decapitate his dead pit bull or go to jail. His dog Big Boy was shot and killed earlier by a deputy after it bit a neighbor and lunged toward the deputy...“She gonna place that into the bag and they got to freeze it,” Hollis said in the video. “That can be tested for rabies, OK?”...On Monday, Goodwin told The Telegraph that the officers offered him the option to call a veterinarian and pay to have the head removed.

The addled pit bull religionists posted their propaganda to the Net without the important facts and had the Sheriff bombed with phone calls.

At my house that little stunt would have resulted in headless cops.

"On Monday, Goodwin told The Telegraph that the officers offered him the option to call a veterinarian and pay to have the head removed."

But the owner of the dangerous animal chose to cut his own dog's head off before making an online announcement with a video to his fellow pit bull owners around the country.

They didn’t have the money to pay for it.

I have nothing to do with pit bulls, but ordering someone to cut a head off? Seems to me a veterinarian or other medical professional should have been called in?

No problem if the cops want to take the dog carcass or if they want to behead it for the vet, whatever. But they cannot force the owner to do it. All the owner is required to do legally is stand aside and not interfere.

So they wanted the dead dog, who had bitten someone tested for rabies.

Seems reasonable.

Pretty standard way to test for rabies. It has been so for years. Tails you win. Heads you lose.

Sure it would have you are willing to kill LEO’s over a dog that attacked people good luck with that.

Can’t cut a dogs head off for rabies testing but are welling to kill humans right.

Welling to spend the rest of your life in prison over a dog very smart.

It does seem like something they should not have been ALLOWED to do. Suppose the dog DID have rabies, they could have caught it. I suspect they should have taken the entire carcass to the health department. If the family ended up getting a bill that would suck hard, but maybe they could appeal it.

IF your dog bites someone and is not delivered for quarantine as required by the law, or dies before the end of the quarantine period, then the head is submitted for Rabies testing. This is not done to be difficult or mean -— it is done to make sure the person that the dog bit is not exposed to rabies. The same kind of people who intentionally own fighting dogs often don’t vaccinate the dogs either. There are, in fact, rabies positive dogs diagnosed by test every year. Rabies is considered “always” fatal in people who are not properly treated after a bite exposure -— 99.999% of the time. Fighting with the officers enforcing the law to protect the bite victim is foolish and unreasonable.

The cop’s wife said the same thing to him when she caught him having an affair!

“Man says cops ordered him to cut off his dog’s head”

Those deputies were idiots for the wrong reason.

Rabies is insanely contagious. Nobody should touch that dog in any way shape or form unless they are biologically protected. Seriously, blood, fluids, droplets in the air, just about anything must be regarded as dangerously contaminated.

In this case, get a large trash can and put a double liner in it. Then, while wearing protective gear, pick up the dead dog with a noose pole and drop it in the can.

Before you leave, get a pump sprayer and decontaminate the ground and any visible blood with strong bleach water. This includes the noose pole. If it cannot be cleaned, then it must be burned.

Presuming that the dog bite was unprovoked - if that was my dog, I would have shot it myself.

Cutting up a potentially rabid dog. Sounds like a job for the public health sector.

Notice that the quotation above was already posted twice--once in the article excerpted above the thread and once in the thread. Now, three times. ;-)

PETA/PAWS demanding that removing the head will not injure or harm the dog in anyway to cause it distress.
