Nearly 20 carjackings reported in one week in Chicago

Chicago police were called to at least two carjackings Sunday and early Monday, capping a week that saw nearly 20 such attacks across the city.

In the most recent carjacking, a 20-year-old man was sitting in a 2014 Buick Verano with a female in the 2400 block of North Maplewood Avenue in Logan Square around 12:35 a.m. Monday when two gunmen forced them from the car, police said.

Earlier on the Far South Side, a 52-year-old woman was pulling out of a driveway in a 2016 Kia Sorrento around 6:40 p.m. Sunday in the 2300 block of West 115th Street in the Morgan Park neighborhood, police said.

The woman told police she was approached by two men in a white four-door sedan. The passenger of the sedan got out with a handgun and told the woman to leave the car and get on the ground.

The latest incidents come as carjackings are rising in Chicago.

More than 700 carjackings have been reported in the city so far this year, outpacing last year's total of 663, which was nearly double the carjackings reported in 2015, the Tribune reported this month.

I am surprised this is happening in Chicago. They should make Car Jacking illegal.

The thugs are just expanding their horizons. Simple murders are so 2015. Why not get a new ride too...

The new cars can’t be hotwired. So carjackings and thefts of older vehicles are on the rise.

I read somewhere that the City DA declared that auto-theft would not be treated as a serious crime, or something similar.

I saw also that last year Chicago Cops announced they won’t pursue car chases “to protect the public”

Any Chicago Freepers who can point me to articles to clarify that?

What makes matters worse is the fact that the unqualified Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Fox (who subscribes to the BLM propaganda) routinely refuses to charge felons with all of their crimes because she feels that blacks are overrepresented in the prison system. In a recent carjacking case, Fox refused to charge one criminal with felony murder.

I grew up just 3 blocks from 115th street. This is virtually 95% Irish Catholic. A lot of Police and Firefighters live there. In short, the Chicago crime is moving steadily into the predominantly white neighborhoods. When you start seeing gun violence there then it’s a whole new ball game. These are affluent Chicago neighborhoods. All brick homes, side walks etc.

It’s also been said that Chicago is constantly working on gaming the books and crooks to affect the crime statistics in Chicago. Misdemeanors do not get tracked the way felonies do. So it makes sense that they are trying to avoid felony charges and convictions. They don’t want anyone to think there is much crime in Chicago.
