Houston Astros catcher and designated hitter Evan Gattis’ journey to becoming a World Series champion is as unconventional as it is inspiring...

A three-and-a-half-year personal journey took him to Colorado, where he flipped pizzas and worked as a ski lift operator, according to the New York Times. He then moved back to his home state, where he worked as a janitor for commercial cleaning company Jan-Pro in Dallas.

Is this an all-American success story or what?

He wasn’t a janitor. He was a Facilities Services Technician.

Wow, what a great success story.

Common, Fox had four weeks to uncover this story and share it with the public. I never heard a peep about this during the playoffs.

Seriously, that’s a huge unforced error on Fox’s part.

Those of us in Atlanta have known this since 2013 when the Braves brought him up...it is a great story and I’m glad he got a ring

I really liked the Pre-Game Panel on Fox with A-Rod and Co. but I feel like half of the announcing team was half asleep and that wasn’t Smoltz who was a great commentator and hopefully more so in the future. Yes, talking about Joe Buck who seemed a bit asleep, not bothering (or able) to call the pitch-types the way other good commentators like Jon Miller do. He made some goofy statements including calling Bregman the second baseman.

What I’m used to seeing is the play-by-play announcer normally being the one to find and communicate these kinds of great stories. To me, Joe Buck didn’t seem to know or care, really.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks they might have omitted it intentionally because the story goes against the “white privilege” meme. Only black people are aggrieved or sumthin’

At the in of the parade today in Houston EVERY player showed proper respect for the flag. No one knelt.

I don't remember the precise details of when I heard it, but I did. I do know that I'd never heard the story before, and it was shared at some point during a game.

OK, well I’m glad to hear that. Maybe it was a playoff game on another channel before the WS on Fox.

Inspiring! And maybe the toughest position to play in baseball. Not only is it physically hard on the knees and body, but catchers have to be one of the smartest positions in the game. They don’t just direct the pitcher, but a lot of the on-field action as well.

My impression is that his story (somewhat abridged because it was being told during the game action) was on FS1, during the ALDS or the ALCS. I didn't see all of the World Series coverage on Fox and FS1 (extended postgame shows, for example) and can't say if it was mentioned in that time.
