Of all the cultural norms we have discarded of late, of all the things we held sacred that we no longer do, of all the public feuds that end in ignominy, this is perhaps the worst. Someone has reportedly stolen Martha Stewarts favorite apple pie dish.
This feud goes back a few years, so well start there. In 2015, one of the approximately 39,000 Real Housewives of Bravos line-up, Countess LuAnn de Lesepps, was having dinner with the U.S. ambassador to Qatar at a fancy New York French restaurant. The one and only Martha Stewart also attended this dinner, and when Ambassador Jaham Al Kuwari suggested he might want to appear on de Lesepps TV program, Stewart advised against it.
With her signature cold honesty, she leaned in to inform him, You dont want to do that. Its lowbrow, very B-list, sources told Page Six at the time. She is, of course, right. The Real Housewives franchise is unabashedly lowbrow, and that is the secret to its success.
De Lesepps overheard Stewarts comment Martha, I can hear you and Stewart laughed it off while the ambassador assured the Real Housewives of New York alumna hed indeed enjoy appearing on the show. Stewart, cold, awesome woman that she is, confirmed her part of this exchange to Page Six, while the countess declined to comment.
Fast-forward to this month, when New York Magazine featured Stewart in an article about famous New Yorkers revisiting their old New York apartments. Stewart arrived, pie in hand, natch, to the address of the Upper East Side penthouse she once shared with her first husband at age 19. That penthouse is now owned by Tom DAgostino, until recently the husband of one Countess Luann de Lesepps. The couple was married for seven months before announcing their divorce in August.
Stewart brought him an apple pie, and the two are pictured in the magazine looking out over the balcony. Stewart is resplendent in stylish wedges, holding a plate of pie as she gestures with fork in hand, as one imagines she always does. What is a gesture, after all, if not punctuated with a kitchen utensil?
In the foreground is the rest of the pastry, in a substantial-looking white pie plate with elegant, scalloped edges atop a glass coffee table in the shadow of a miniature Trojan horse statues rear end.
Heres where it gets weird again. Sources close to DAgostino claim Stewart showed up unannounced, and the first he heard of the story was a call he got from the doorman when she arrived. This seems unlikely for several reasons. It is such a breach of guest protocol, I cant imagine Stewart would make it, even though she often makes clear she operates in a sphere above all such concernsa sort of stratosphere above etiquette.
But who shows up unannounced with a painstakingly baked pie? Her host gift game is the strongest, but she doesnt call ahead? Color me skeptical that shed risk standing in a lobby with a pie plate if no one were home.
She then proceeded to throw shade at DAgostinos recently renovated place.
It was very beautiful and light-filled and airy and all white, the way it was meant to be, she said about the place when she lived there. Now its much more enclosed and dark, adding And its more masculine now. I mean, hes a bachelor now, isnt he?
Ouch. To be fair, Stewart knows a lot about home decorating, whereas a recently divorced Housewives-adjacent man probably knows how to protect his furniture from wine spills. Perhaps thats the reason for the obviously low light in the New York Mag pic and the dark patterned pillows one imagines could take a Chardonnay hit without much problem.
When Stewart speaks the cold, hard truth, it is the truth. Except for that one time it wasnt and she went to jail. But she took responsibility for her actions in yet another display of dignified toughness foreign to the likes of most A-list celebrities faced with such punishment, going to federal prison for five months in 2004. There she earned the prison nickname M. Diddy, serving as a liaison between fellow prisoners and prison administration on issues of concern, and coming out with enough cred to be Snoop Doggs friend.
This leads us to the question: Why steal her pie plate and then trash it, as DAgostino has now reportedly done?
Stewart, again so devastatingly cutting, drops a request her pie plate be returned into the caption of New York Mags Instagram: But Tom if you see this, could you please return the dish? Its her favorite.
DAgostinos people responded by telling Page Six it was a cheap Pyrex number and theyd tried to return it. Oh, h-ll no. First off, the pie plate pictured doesnt look like a cheap, Pyrex number. It looks like heavy-duty Corningware or vintage milk glass, either of which is more pricey than standard Pyrex, not that Stewart has to put on airs.
Second, why would you do this? Is it not abundantly clear Martha Stewart will cut a b-tch? She may have just engaged in a years-long grudge match with a lowbrow, B-list Real Housewife to alight upon your doorstep with an apple pie and throw shade at your penthouse. Just because she can. Were not even sure what shes up to here.
Is she messing with DAgostino to get to de Lesepps as some kind of payback, or is she trashing de Lesepps ex as an appropriately shade-filled make-up call for insulting de Lesepps show in 2015? Is she telegraphing her desire to form an alliance with a Housewife, or more likely, does she just like to watch the world burn, lit by the wick of a tastefully scented, gardenia pillar candle? We dont have any idea what were dealing with, people, so why provoke her?
This will not end well. M. Diddy does not take kindly to this kind of thing. She is ice cold. Just ask Gwyneth Paltrow or anyone at the Justin Bieber roast.
Ice. Cold. She will come for her pie plate, along with the dignity of your entire B-list family line. Somebody better hope his sheets are soft and absorbent enough for the horses head hell find in them shortly. May I suggest Martha Stewart Living?
What exactly the F?
Also, this is where I stopped reading. Couldn't take any more.
these people are so full of themselves I’m surprised they don’t explode...
Ever see her “cooking” show with snoop dog?
The woman is a whore. I had not seen it before but OMG. What a train wreck of morals. Watched season one episode one about a week ago. It was riveting watching how much that woman lack a moral core. I stand by it. A nasty whore.
Yeah, I couldn’t care less about Martha’s pie either.
It is a grave mistake to care about any of these people.... or anything about these people.... heh heh

Yeah, this was a tough article to get through.
I bet Martha can afford another pie plate. *rolls eyes*
i am sure
She’s putting on pounds.
That’s probably what her prison cell looked like also.
Never heard of her.
For a woman who spent time in jail using crony capitalist stock brokers to enrich herself, she should have retired.
For the people of Venezuela who are considering killing their family dog for one month of soup with protein, may The Lord Jesus Christ Bless You.
For this vile person that is everything; LA, NYC, DC, Chicago and Miami, praying for her.
Amen.
I’ve encountered Martha Stewart on a photoshoot in NYC before, this was back in the 90’s when her public image was sterling and the public perceived her as some sort of paragon of feminine virtue. I can vouch, she’s a chilly pretentious witch. I was shocked at the time, but haven’t been shocked by revelations since then. People who are drawn to pose as a New England WASP are the worst of the worst. Hillary Clinton “herself” is one of them. Zeal of the convert I guess, wrapped up in self-aggrandizement. Martha Stewart has done good for a little Polish girl.
I do not begrudge anybody about how they attained their wealth with the exception of drug dealers and corrupt politicians.
I guess I Begrudge America right now.
I don’t begrudge wealth honestly attained myself, but I do feel somewhat put upon by individuals who don an insufferable artificial persona based solely upon a desire to climb the provincial social class structure of tony NYC suburbia. Nothing really wrong with social climbing either, if you get right down to it that’s what our country is about, but that word “honesty” crops up again. Without it, it’s just posing. Be who and what you are on the way up, that makes you more likable on your way back down again. Refine the rough edges? Sure. But, be a refined version of yourself, not some Thurston Howell, III cartoon though.
Friend, if you have the Wealth to hire young kids in order that your company may grow along with the kids understanding how a business works... Amen.
The fact that I have to go to bed now thinking of Thurston Howell instead of Ginger and or Maryann pisses me off!
Social climbers have degenerated just as society has. The Cushing sisters raised eyebrows by their blatant mercenary approach to marrying not just rich but very rich. Babe Paley still seemed to have more of a natural way about her than Martha.
The Bouvier sisters took the Cushing Sisters social climbing to heart and married up financially and cared even less about marital fidelity. But the public can see that Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis had a very hard and very cold mercenary streak even for Café Society or the Jet Set.
Easy as apple pie. Plate.
