Camelot was such a joke.
A carefully concocted and meticulously performed joke with many willing performers. Complicit partners as you said.

The joke is on us though because the Kennedy family has been milking that myth ever since. Living like royalty when they are just white trash with money.

If one made an honest accounting, I wonder how many lives the Kennedy clan destroyed along the way.
Probably make the Clinton death list look like a first grade primer.
Marilyn Monroe and Mary Jo Kopechne were just the tip of the iceberg.
