Oklahoma police are investigating after a student was apparently attacked inside a bathroom at his high school in Edmond last week in a beating that was captured on cellphone video.

The incident occurred on Oct. 4 inside the restroom at Edmond Memorial High School, KTLA sister station KFOR in Oklahoma City reported Tuesday.

The victim was punched several times without fighting back, and now his parents are pressing charges, according to investigators.

“One of the students with special needs was being repeatedly punched in one of the bathrooms that day,” Jennifer Wagnon, with the Edmond Police Department, told KFOR.

It’s not like fights in schools are anything new. Used to be, you’d maybe get a 2-3 day suspension and a stern discussion with the principal. Used to be just “kids”, now we have all these categories of “special needs”. Used to be the parents did the punishing, not police. Used to be things called “responsibility”, and “shame”.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

It wasn’t a “fight.” It was bullies beating a mentally retarded kid.

I doubt anyone would shed a tear.

According to a video at the link below, the thug was taken into the Edmond jail, processed, then released to his "guardian."

Should be that way but they’re afraid they’ll get in trouble and are probably right.Teachers and school boards are afraid of giving the bullies what they deserve (suing parents you know). It’s sad all the way around. My thinking is that bully has to leave the school property sometime and they should fear that someone is waiting off campus for the chance to kick their azz.

Thank you for the ping!

This story reminds me of JFK high school in Sacramento.
