VANITY--What would YOU do? (NFL related)

Posted on 10/09/2017 8:50:40 AM PDT by AbolishCSEU

My husband is (was) a HUGE Steelers fan. I mean MEGA GIGUNDA fan since childhood to the point of having a tattoo with the Steelers old school emblem. AS for myself, I couldn't care less--not a big football fan to begin with. I prefer hockey but I digress.

My son and daughter in law are HUGE Packers fans. They are conservative, however, they try to overlook all the stupid anti-Trump protesting/kneeling that is going on just because they like football.

Earlier this year before all this anti-Trump protesting from the players, I purchased 4 very pricey NFL tickets for Heinz field (Steelers vs Packers) plus two pricey hotel rooms and a pricey parking ticket. We had gone on a trip such a this a few years back to Lambeau Field

Now hubby does NOT want to go and wants me to sell the tickets. Which we probably won't be able to get at face value now anyway.

Son and DIL still want to go for a rare outing (they have full time jobs, hubs has a full time business of his own plus a part time job and I have the same scenario)

For sure, this will be our last game ever if we do go.

What would you do?

If it was me I would burn them and make a youtube video of it—but it is your call.

I would sell the tickets and the parking permit for whatever you can get for them, go stay in the hotel rooms, and do something else. There’s bound to be a museum, zoo, other sporting event ... *something* that would interest your family at the destination.

Choosing to do the right thing is always hard. If it weren’t, everyone would do it.

I’d consider still going, but wearing shirts saying something like “I stand for the anthem” on them and not buying anything else at the stadium while I’m there.

You can still enjoy the time with your family, you’ve already spent the money which you are unlikely to get back (they’ve gotten theirs already, remember), if you sell the tix on the cheap someone else will still fill those seats, and in the grand scheme of things the game is just 3 hours out of what will be a fun weekend with your people.

And I’d boo them if they kneel :D . If you do that at home they won’t hear you LOL.

I agree. Tear them in half, shoot them with buckshot and then burn them and video it on YouTube.

A co-worker is in a similar situation. He’s selling the tickets but taking the trip...staying in the hotel...and looking for other things to visit that weekend.

Plan A: Give them to the kids. They’ll have fun and you’ll feel good having done that for them.
Plan B: Get your hubby to go. Arrange somebody to film you. Get down to the front row and scream and yell at the anti-American coddled spoiled rich brats. Throw drinks on them. Get arrested. Post film to YouTube. Go viral. Start your own YT Patriotic American channel. You’ll feel good having done that for your country.

No answer for your quandary, but just letting you know you’re not alone in the division this has created.

I’m not a football fan, but I generally watch with the wife unit because she is a big fan (both of us Trump voters). I told her I would no longer be watching these traitors but she was free to watch (with no complaints from me).

Yesterday, she watched the game on the widescreen while I watched Prime movies on my phone in another part of the house.

Pittsburgh is a wonderful city to explore. Sell the tickets and use the money to visit other sights in the area.

And don’t forget a stop at Primanti’s!

You will likely get face vale for the tickets and parking pass. There is rarely an issue with less than face for Steelers tickets.

Come to Pittsburgh and play tourist, it’s a nice city.

The team already has the money, so it doesn’t matter to them whether you go or not other than the shame of having a half empty stadium. Is the game sold out? If not, then selling the ticket would keep a person who really wants to go from giving their money to the Steelers. If it was me I would go but make sure not to buy any food, drinks or souvenirs - bring a cup and get tap water to drink. You can survive three hours without a snack. Burning the tickets doesn’t hurt the NFL one bit.

The NFL cares if you buy the seat, not if you sit in it, so it’s too late to boycott. I would probably go and bring obnoxious anit-NFL signs and whatever sort of sound amplification devices or vuvuzella or whatever I can get past security.

Go to the game, enjoy the family time together.

/As I (we) grow older, such thing is getting rarer

Make it into as non-political as possibly can

I agree with what several others have said. You have already paid for the tickets so the NFL already has the money. If you sell them, then there will be people in those seats already.

Just try to convince your husband that the damage is done, he might as well go and try to enjoy the game as much as he can anyway.

The tickets are already paid for. It would be a waste to give them up and miss-out on an opportunity to counter protest. Honor the country during the national anthem, but organize the crowd to collectively turn their backs to the field after the anthem until after the opening kick-off return. Encourage those around you to forgo snacks and drinks, and to skip the memorabilia and gift shopping entirely. Make a sign that reads "Thank God Abraham Lincoln wasn't a kneeler like these pansies!" Have fun with it.

If your son & DIL still want to go to the game, I’d offer to sell your game tickets to their friends. Otherwise, You & your husband can just forfeit the game but enjoy the rest of the weekend at the hotel and doing something else fun with your son & DIL.

You shouldn’t have this problem.
The teams shouldn’t be allowing this.

> If it was me I would burn them and make a youtube video of it

* reserve a local park for a Sunday afternoon
* publicize that you’re throwing a party to burn the tickets
* have a representative from a police/fire/... org there to accept donations (and to supervise burning and help get permits if needed)
* Sell or give out raffle tickets to be the one to light the match. Not sure about laws but maybe you can keep up to face value of tickets without upsetting people. If you sell more than face value, the rest goes to the police/fire org. Give out a raffle ticket to anyone adding NFL jerseys, hats, etc. for burning.
* pick a Sunday when Steelers have a 4pm kickoff. start the party a few hours before that. Play the national anthem at 4 then start the burning. Or do it on the day the tickets are for even if 1pm - you just may not have as much time to collect jerseys and give out raffle tickets.
