None of this has to be done with the internet. There are plenty of other ways to ensure world-wide communication links.

It was implemented on a more basic scale starting years ago and there were built-in redundancies.

It wasn’t just ships, there were airborne, space and groundwave links that were regularly up and running to include the ability to establish world-wide redundant links. In later years ground and airborne battle management platforms were also included in that link.

If the entire military is to be interconnected, it would require supercomputer, software and the ability to rapidly enter data and commands All fertile opportunities for clever hackers. the Germansthoght they had an unbreakable cipher machine known as enigma. Many Germans went to thei graves not knowing that they were hacked. This is a very, very bad idea.
