Not a single aftershock has been recorded since the magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Mexico's Puebla state 8 hours ago.

(Ongoing aftershocks from September 7th's M8.1 can be seen to the southeast)

I have been following this closely. No aftershocks of note. Very peculiar, and VERY worrisome. Are we about to see something of catastrophic proportions? As every hour passes, I am thinking this 7.1 is a FORESHOCK. I cannot describe the foreboding that I am feeling now.

Someone else pointed out how Japan, New Zealand, Chile, and now Mexico have all had major quakes along the Pacific Plate within the pat decade. I worry that the Pacific Plate is slowly ripping itself apart. This could be bad for California or Alaska. Oregon and Washington are on the Juan De Fuca and NA Plate boundary so I am unsure what that portends.

It could be the quake was caused by a volcanic eruption and not a usual plate shift and settling aftershock type of event ?

This link shows video of a plume emitting from the volcano and also cites there have been small tremors, and maybe these volcanic tremors are lower than what usgs reports on their maps for earth quakes?

Not sure but the volcano may be acting up as a result or cause of today's 7.1?

Do you have a background in geology, or geophysics?

And I guess all those earthquakes we had when we were not so enamored of homosexuality and were more religious were because..... what again?

Get a grip, people - it's plate tectonics at work. Be happy we have shifting plates, as it means we have a live, molten iron core, which rotates, producing a big magnetic field, which keeps the sun from blowing away our rich atmosphere despite our relatively low gravity.

And yes, I love God. I love Him so I work on studying His Creation.

I’m in.

Plus the fact that some in leadership in the U.S. hate Israel, and the blood of innocents spilled in abortion.

Adaven and Yossarian, you've brought up some good points and this WAS looking like a serious thread.

To many on this board think constantly being cynical and snarky is funny.

Come on people, have some respect for who you're replying to and think before you post.

Congrats on your 11th day here, and welcome to FR.

Yea, people need to stop blaming catastrophe on God because of sin in other people.

It’s kinda weird. Kind of sick.

“WAS looking like a serious thread. “

Children ignorantly posting ridiculously alarming crap isn’t a “serious thread”. It is just the dumbing down of America on display.
