People are starting to tune out awards shows like the Emmys because they have become so politicized, White House aide Kellyanne Conway said Monday.
"Its between the Emmys, the Miss America pageant was very politicized. Our sports are very politicized," Conway said on Fox News.
"And it looks like the ratings are suffering. It looks like America is responding by tuning out, because they want you to stick to your knitting," she continued.
"They want you to, I guess, in this case, read the stuff other people write for you. And so they are welcome to their opinion, but how does it really fit?" Conway said those attending the awards "got plucked and polished and waxed, and some of them didnt eat for two months."
"And all for what?" she asked. "To sound the same?"
The Emmys on Sunday evening were laden with references to President Trump, as various stars took jabs at the president.
Host Stephen Colbert kicked off the night with a monologue in which he jokingly blamed the academy for Trump's election and suggested if he had won an award for "The Apprentice" he might never have left television.
"Why didnt you give him an Emmy? If he had won an Emmy, I bet he wouldnt have run for president. In a way, this is all your fault," he said.
Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer also made an appearance at the awards show, where he joked about crowd size.
"Saturday Night Live" stars who impersonated both Trump and Hillary Clinton also received awards for their work on the show.
Alec Baldwin, who played Trump on "Saturday Night Live," poked fun at the president, saying: "At long last, Mr. President, here is your Emmy."
It’ll be interesting to see if it happens on DWTS and the reaction should it happen.
Hard to believe but at 60 I have pretty much stopped watching football except the Cowboys. Went to a college game Saturday night that was a blast $50 sitting on the 50 yard line two top 25 teams.
It’s also fun to watch vintage NHL, MLB, NFL, and NBA games uploaded on You Tube. Someone has the 1976 Philadelphia Flyers-Toronto Maple Leafs Stanley Cup Quarter Finals series uploaded there, complete with local Philly commercials. And there is also a trove of 1960s thru 1980s classic ball games on as well.
People are starting to tune out POLITICAL CORRECTNESS.
BJ Clinton’s wife and Michael Obama allegedly “rejected” DWTS.
(I will not include a link to the WashingtonCompost supporting this statement)
Watch for a Big Media headline saying DWTS will reject Melania Trump.
People are starting to tune OUT loud-mouthed PC ‘entertainers’ & ‘athletes’.
If you are 60 I’m sure you have other things in mind when you look at Ms. Conway.
Target. Cease Fire, in the lingo of US Army tankers and field artillery forward observers.
I would like to watch the 1978 one game playoff between the Yankees and the Red Sox for the AL championship. One of the most exciting games I have ever watched on TV.
Kellyanne has a very good point. Americans, by and large, are decent people. And when their decency is insulted, they find something else to do with their time.
Thank you.
This is hilarious.
Once they start losing money they will have to go moderate or to the right.
Anime is far superior. Great characters, great stories, and great voice actors. Also lots of genres to choose from.
The DVD collection is growing. And it can be filtered to remove gay porn.
In this case, it is "Target. Fire for effect."
I never watched the Emmys, and I have no desire to watch them, especially these days, given what I see in reports about them.
But I really think if our side just ignored them, pretended they do not exist that would be the best course of action. These attention addicts hate to be ignored.
Never listen to Hannity’s radio show, but an appointment caused me to be driving around 3 EST when his show came on. I tuned in only to turn it off. I could not believe that he played a full 3 minutes of audio clips from the show.
We all know that they are America-hating, foul-mouthed bigots, so what was Hannity’s point? It is my understanding that this award show had a much reduced TV audience, and most of us do not want to hear what they have to say. Yet Hannity gave their disgusting rants all sorts of free publicity. Why?
Absolutely agree. People are tired of celebrities acting morally superior and saying terrible things about conservatives.
I got a proposal for everyone. lets have one day out of each week where those upset at the politicizing of entertainment and sports don’t participate as consumers at events and watching television. do this on Wednesday of every week for the next year. this is to let those in the entertainment industry ( network executive) to realize how mush there allowing Madonna, Cher, Katy Perry and the rest of there ilk to use events like the award ceremony’s to advance there own personnel agendas is losing them add revenue during the rest of the week.
