Well said, DoughtyOne.
Levin fails to see that McConnell was scheming to use the "must pass" Harvey bill to extend the debt ceiling for 18 months, pushing it past the 2018 election and taking away Trump's leverage to shut down the government.
By working with Schumer to get a 3-month extension, Trump is undercutting McConnell's attempt to undermine Trump, making Republicans have to deal with this again in 3 months instead of safely after the midterm elections.
This is what Levin said he wanted, right, to keep shutting down the government for leverage as a viable option? McConnell was trying to outflank Trump's ability to do that by using Harvey to force Trump into approving McConnell's extension. Trump turned the tables on him.

If Ryan and McConnell can’t get it done, Trump will get it done the other way. Remember that nothing Ryan and McConnell have promised this year has come to be.
LOL!!
It ain't gonna happen but Chuckie and Never Trumpers must be getting off on that title.
Good point. Still haven’t passed a budget.
At first I was upset, kinda. Then I laughed me bum off.
Ryan and Yertl had plans that were ruined.
Schumer's business is Marxism and flooding America with illegal aliens.
We need a RINO Hunters Pac. A call for funds, volunteers and votes against those who are selling out the US
Some natural disasters that need funding. The public must be reassured that the government is focused on recovery. The wall can be tied to the DREAMER legislation.
Some DREAMER relief is called for - so is more border enforcement. Let’s just first get passed hurricane season.
Any time is a good time to "shut down government". Not that hitting the debt ceiling actually shuts down the government ... that's just another Rat-media lie.
This is the GOP leadership’s fault, 100%.
They could have already passed a bill to raise the debt ceiling past December, so that nothing the Dims wanted could be tied to it, nor could they hold the Congress/country hostage to getting them added to amendments tied to the bill to increase the debt limit.
And why should they have done that, before now?
Because they were 100% dishonest with anyone who thought they would not raise the debt limit to begin with.
Since they have done nothing all year, and didn’t even bother to take the debt limit off the table by getting the raising of it over with, they INSURED Dim amendments to it in the year end must pass home stretch.
Have they enacted tax reform, or budget reform? No.
So on what basis did CONGRESS make it possible to NOT support raising the debt limit? None, because the statutory spending rules as of the last laws passed on them are still in place, as well as the tax rules for the revenue. CONGRESS has not made any leverage, in law, FOR TRUMP to not support a debt increase.
They - not Trump - shot themselves in the foot.
Should we be over-the-top angry? Yes. At whom? At Ryan and McConnell.
Good!
Good to see you posting again, Jane.
Hope you came through OK in TX.
Riiight. But it wasn’t politics for the republicans to tie hurricane relief to a debt ceiling extension til the 2018 elections, was it Paulie? They’re ALL filthy swamp dwellers, on both sides of the wall. Trump called Ryan’s bluff. Good for him!
It also shows Reps that they cannot stall his agenda, and that he will look for votes elsewhere. On any given topic, he could pick off some Dems votes, esp from those Dem senators from red states. Think tax reform.
The Reps need to get their act together.
WAH! WAH! HE PROMISED A WALL...Where is it?...HE PROMISED!
WAH! WAH! WAH! HE PROMISED REPEAL AND REPLACE...HE DIDN'T DO IT...
As A staunch conservative republican I CAN'T STAND BEING LIED TO...I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY HE CAN'T GET ANYTHING DONE when the "conservative republicans" have control over both houses...WHY CAN"T TRUMP GET ANYTHING DONE...IT'S ALL TRUMPS FAULT.
