When Commander John Rodgers’ PN-9 ran low on fuel 400 miles short of his destination, like a good Navy man he rigged the flying boat and sailed the rest of the way.

A great story in early U.S. Naval Aviation history, told in great detail of the struggles of these incredible men after their plane went down a mere 400 miles short of their Hawaiian destination.
