Officials at the San Domenico School in California decided recently to remove the Catholic statues and icons in a move to be seen as more inclusive.
The school is celebrating its 167th year.
Officials feared the statues of Jesus and Mary were alienating.

Removal of a number of statues and other smaller Catholic icons from the campus of San Domenico School in San Anselmo has raised concerns among some parents.
In an email to the school’s board of directors, Dominican Sisters of San Rafael and the head of school, Shannon Fitzpatrick objected to the removal of the statues and other steps the school has taken in an effort to make the school more inclusive.
“Articulating an inclusive foundation appears to mean letting go of San Domenico’s 167-year tradition as a Dominican Catholic school and being both afraid and ashamed to celebrate one’s heritage and beliefs,” wrote Fitzpatrick, whose 8-year-old son attends the school.
She added, “In our time here, the word ‘Catholic’ has been removed from the mission statement, sacraments were removed from the curriculum, the lower school curriculum was changed to world religions, the logo and colors were changed to be ‘less Catholic,’ and the uniform was changed to be less Catholic.”
Responding to follow-up questions Monday, Fitzpatrick wrote, “There are other families having the same concerns I do. Many parents feel if the school is heading in a different direction then the San Domenico community should have been notified before the signing of the enrollment for the following year.”

Inclusive? I am not Catholic, but I feel sorry for the traditionaalists, and what they are having to put up with. A Christian school taking down a statue of Jesus seems beyond reason
The original motive for removing them was that they were becoming “idols”. They removed all of them from our church long ago....and added a geetar, a hand shaking germ festivity, lay people passing out communion....etc etc.
Sheesh. My kids go to catholic school and I’d be pissed. If I wanted the kids to go to a basically private nondenominational school we would have made that decision. Our kids go to catholic school for the catholic religion period.
‘Bout damn time California changed the names of all those cities that begin with San and Santa. As well as the name of the capitol, Sacramento.
When do they post the verses from the koooran that mandate killing Christians?

I’m not Catholic - but why would a Catholic school WANT to be more “inclusive” to people who aren’t Catholics... isn’t being Catholic the POINT? What kind of mass insanity has taken over our country?
This has been getting worse and worse - but it’s really gone beyond all reason and sanity this year. These people truly need help and need to be stopped.
They will need to remove Bible verses too. Starting with John 14:6.

In fact, they might as well remove all the Bibles.
I ask myself this question about 12 times a day....
I was searching for the right school for one of my kids and I actually went to tour a catholic school just in case. Even though we are not Christian. The principal told me they have many Muslim families because the area had no Muslim schools (yet). So you do wonder, do they respect the tuition by others so much that they will rip off the purpose of the school for it?
Ummm, I was always taught that Jesus died for ALL sinners, how is that not the best example of “all-inclusive”?
I predict that they will keep the Holy names and redefine them to suit their lifestyles and “morals”. They did this with the symbol of the rainbow.
If more people would include Mary and Jesus in their lives, we would have a better world.
The difference between Islam and Christianity is clear. Christ teaches forgiveness. Mohamed teaches killing. Killing is the nature of their religion.

Maybe change the names to San/Santa?
Geez this is just plain stupid and I have no religious affiliation other than mostly Christian.
This is an absolute travesty. It has happened elsewhere too: Georgetown; De Paul (Chicago) and Loyola (Chicago).
Georgetown has removed crucifixes. De Paul has taken down all, but the most nondescript content neutral Catholic art (usually unrecognizable portraits of St. Vincent De Paul) while Loyola has modified its bathrooms to cater to Muslim students desiring to bathe their feet.
Because it would appear they are re-making their Christian School into a generic non-religious school. How long until such a school no longer celebrates the birth of Jesus or his resurrection? How long until such a school even teaches from the bible?
One word... money. In order to raise money, to pay teachers and pay for physical plant costs, tuition money and donations must continue to flow. There are many liberal or non-Catholics who send their children to Catholic schools to take advantage the usually superior education. These families are easily offended by traditional Catholicism so accomodations are made to not be “too Catholic” Ask me how I know..
