Agree. All these MMA guys are street fighter punks. When up against a disciplined professional boxer it should be lights out.
“When I was a little kid (around 7 or so), I watched the fights every Friday night. The Friday Night Fights”
Me too in the 50’s. The likes of Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Sugar Ray Robinson etc. Real boxers,
You couldn't have melted Clay and poured him over Liston, the fight was rigged period.
Chances are this fight will come down to the money if Mayweather wins it will preclude the millions they would earn for a rematch.
I like Floyd but he is doing great harm to the sport of boxing with this farce. My feeling is that mayweather is actually trying to promote MMA much the way Bobby Riggs promoted women's tennis with the battle of the sexes in the late 70s.
That’$ nut$ on hi$ part.
Drop either of them off in ‘the street’ in some neighborhoods and neither would be alive in the morning.
Professional boxers are a whole different breed. Their hands are literally lethal weapons and the average non-boxer has no idea what they’re up against. Whenever this sort of topic comes up, I’m always reminded of this poor sap in the video who challenged an aging, former lightweight champion on the street. Now, MacGregor is no bum on the street, but he is up against a current undefeated champion...not a run of the mill boxer.

I agree.
McGregor isn’t a mixed martial artist, he’s a puncher who chooses to earn his living in MMA. He’s got no ground game, all he’s got is his fists, and one of them — the left one — is Thor’s own hammer. Different rules, same tools, and McGregor’s tools are spectacular.
Ten years ago, Mayweather couldn’t knock out his baby mama (and he tried). Today, he can’t spell nhagoudt.
When they step into the ring, McGregor will outweigh Mayweather by at least 15 lbs. He’s 1” taller and has 2” more reach, he’s 12 years the younger and he’s knocked out nine opponents since the last time Mayweather knocked out anybody (including women, AFAWK). McGregor was nine years old the last time Mayweather finished anybody in the first round. McGregor has 15 first-round finishes in 24 fights, and five 1st-round KOs since the Mayheather had a KO of any sort. All this wearing just 4-oz gloves. And all he needs is half a second and one punch to put Mayweather to sleep.
Mayweather has 49 fights worth of film for McGregor to scout. He is a known commodity. McGregor has gone to school studying his feints, his tells, and his flaws. But Mayweather doesn’t doesn’t have a clue what’s going to be coming at him when the opening bell rings.
The biggest problem for Mayweather is that he can’t finish the fight in the ring. Never gonna happen. He failed to finish ANY of his seven most recent opponents, and two of them he only won on mixed decisions. If he’s going to win, he’s going to have to spend 36 minutes on defense, and every half-second that his defense isn’t perfect represents a chance for him to go nighty-night.
Which means Mayweather has just one chance to win, but McGregor has 4300 (presuming there’s no “saving by the bell” at the end of the 12th, otherwise it’s 4320 opportunities).
I’m not predicting a McGregor win, I’m just saying that anyone who thinks McGregor doesn’t stand a chance is not in full possession of either the facts or their faculties [pick one]. :-p
As for the Sonny Liston fight, Cassius Clay likely would have never have got that title shot except for a little cheating from Angelo Dundee. Henry Cooper had knocked Clay down in the fourth and he still was wobbly when he sat on the stool between rounds. Dundee noticed a small tear in one of Clay’s gloves, which he proceeded to stick his fingers into and pull apart to make sure the hole was too big for the fight to continue. Then he called over the ref to look at it. While they were scrambling for a replacement, Chickie Ferrara busied himself stuffing smelling salts up Clay’s nose. And the extra break between rounds gave Clay time to shake out the cobwebs.
Which is why there’s now a rule that both contestants have to have a spare pair of gloves at ringside. Call it “the Angelo Dundee rule.”
You are correct. Anyone that thinks this is even a match in any way is totally ignorant of professional boxing. Even Sparing partners of a pro boxer would beat Mcgregor. When non boxers fight boxers they don’t lose, they die, of massive brain hemmorage having never known what hit them. This is why pro boxers don’t get into street fights, they don’t want to go to prison.
