It is more than related to it. They are all the same word spelled in Arabic precisely the same.
I haven’t seen the guy’s name in Arabic, just in Latin script. If there’s an alif at the start before kaa, you’re correct. If there’s a yaa, making a long “ee” between the baa and raa the word / name is kabeer, or “great”. The root for both is k-b-r. The “ou” bit seems to show up in Maghreb Arabic, Western North African dialect in Morocco, Algeria, etc.
Kind'a catchy... I like it..!
The Turks consider the western dialects to be bastardizations. But the Turkish version which was not even officially used for most of a century is its own warping of the Arabian tongue. I remember my father’s good friend in Istanbul, a Greek who spoke Turkish, Turkish Arabic, and Meccan Arabic. He demonstrated it to us more than once and even to my then 7-8 year ole ears the two versions of Arabic sounded noticeably different.
Not the way I was taught, but Google Translate seems to agree with you. So who am I (and my professor from forty some years ago) to disagree? Anyway, it’s been an interesting side discussion.
He is most likely being hidden and protected in an islamic “No Go Zone” (like the DFW Airport taxi driver that honor killed his daughters & hasn’t been seen since).
Or he has a slipped back to Africa or France.
No, I think his real name is Jorgen Kjellsgard, former captain of the Norwegian bobsled team.
My daughter was on vacation in Europe with a group of friends, and her hotel was not far from Las Ramblas in Barcelona! She safely flew out of Barcelona this morning to continue the vacation. But we spent several anxious hours, glued to TV news. We were in communication with her via WhatsApp during the ordeal, which was a huge help.
Thank God for that.
They are reporting that one American has died in the attacks in Spain. There are a number of other attacks being reported out Europe today.
Yes, feel terrible about those killed and injured for no fault of theirs. The cowardly terrorists have no place in a civilized world.
I agree. Hopefully it was just an extremely poor choice of words, however, I doubt it.
