This man seems to have an axe to grind about something. Probably something to do with money.
That, or his newer friends hate Trump, so this co-author is trying to prove worthy of their friendship, by disavowing any links he ever had with Donald Trump.
That serves as a warning to any present or future biography clients. This is a guy who may turn on you (viciously!) after a couple of years have past, and he needs more money.

Part of me is thinking that Trump is looking at the reaction to his Charlottesville comments and going, “Really?!?!?! I have to take crap for something like that? Screw this.”
