English Leather, Old Spice, Canoe, Brut...could be that your grandad being born in 1900 used the aftershaves usually found in barbershops. Was one I recall that seemed to be in every barber shop in the 50’s and 60’s, Clubman.

Here’s a link that deals exactly with that period. Though I don’t recall any guy using Hai Karate.

Thanks. I had seen that site when I was looking to see if anything rang a bell. I guess I should try going to a real barbershop and not Supercuts to see if they has the scent I am looking for : )

PiperJohn wrote "like when you’re pulling a carburetor off a ’68 Plymouth Satellite with a 318cc V-8" He needs to work on his manliness coefficient. 318cc -- LOL. Eight thimble-size pistons isn't going to impress many.

Nor will that displacement allow you to drive faster than the speed of light.

My paternal granddad was a building contractor and carpenter by trade. He kept a huge shop for his business, but what I most remember, is the smell of his garage at home, which was stuffed to the rafters with old tools and construction bric-a-brac of every description.

He had a huge work bench in there, and a potbellied, wood burning stove in the middle of the floor. We boys loved to help him stoke the fire in that thing on cold winter days, while he taught us the basics of tool use.

The aromas of real man’s work permeated that old garage and stayed with me to adulthood. When I started my own career in construction, the smells of the jobsite were like home to me.

Try English Leather or Aramis. Both from the 60s.

I have ordered English Leather and Aramis.
I will know on Tuesday when the order arrives.

In about 1964, when Aramis was launched, I was turning 16. My aunt gave me their cologne and aftershave as a Christmas gift — she was a buyer at an upscale department store.

I still use it over 80% of the time now fifty years later.
