Paul Ellis took sweets and condoms with him to meet the child but was instead greeted by paedophile-hunters Dark Justice
A paedophile was caught by online vigilantes when he drove 200 miles thinking he was meeting a young girl for sex.
Paul Ellis set off from his home in Denbigh to drive to Newcastle, taking sweets and crisps to ply his intended 13-year-old victim with.
But when he arrived, he quickly realised there was no girl. Instead he was met by members of the group Dark Justice, who go online to find people who use the internet to prey on children.
The group approached Ellis, 58, and filmed him as they grilled him about why he had travelled to the city.
Ellis sat passively throughout the interrogation, in which Dark Justice members warned him that police were on their way to arrest him.
The Dark Justice member assured him there would be “no hostility or violence so you can stay calm”, before asking Ellis “you knew this person was under-age, you came here to do what?”
Ellis responded: “To meet her.”
Dark Justice: “To meet her and have sex?”
Ellis: “Yes.”
Dark Justice: “And to watch child porn on your iPad?”
Ellis: “Yes.”
The group told Ellis, of Rhyl Road in Denbigh, that it knew he had been talking to the ‘girl’ since August 2016.
Ellis, who had brought condoms with him, clutched his packet of cigarettes, and was told “if you smoke I suggest now is the time to have a cigarette mate”.
Within minutes, a police officer arrived and, after Dark Justice explained to them who Ellis was and why he was in Newcastle, the officer arrested Ellis and led him away in handcuffs.
Ellis, who had been working in a chip shop, was jailed at Mold Crown Court on Thursday for other offences.
At the time he was snared on Tyneside, he was on bail for talking to under-aged boys and girls on the internet.
His Denbigh home had been raided in 2015 and police found a large number of graphic sexual chats with children, some as young as 12.
In those cases, unlike his Newcastle crime, the children did actually exist, the Daily Post reports.
Extensive police enquiries had been carried out, and in September last year Ellis pleaded not guilty.
He was supposed to be tried in February - two months before he travelled to Newcastle hoping to meet a 13-year-old - but that case was adjourned.
His defending barrister Simon Mintz told the court Ellis knew he had a problem, that what he had done was wrong, and that he needed help.
He admitted five charges of attempting to arrange a child sex offence over the internet in 2015, with 11 other similar offences committed between January and October last year.
Ellis also admitted that he had planned to incite a child into sexual activity between August last year and April this year, when he was arrested in Newcastle.
Judge Rhys Rowlands told Ellis he had engaged in “lurid, sexual conversations” with children, adding: “You continued with what was totally depraved behaviour, even after you had been arrested and appeared in court.
“You travelled up there in the belief that you were going to meet up with and have sex with a 13-year-old girl.
He was jailed for four years and ordered to sign the sex offences register for life.
He will be sentenced for the Newcastle offence on Monday by a court in the North East.

I think the cops have a real problem with those tactics-you’re doing their job. They vigilantes should be thanked since the only thing the cop has to do is put on the cuffs.

You don’t have lone pedophiles in the mooselimb pedo community, they tend to work in packs by grooming and then abducting their victims locally like in rotterham. They are very insular so they will never go online for their victims, they just need to go down to their local pedophile grooming mosque and they have all the underage infidel children they can rape.
