Chuckle every time I see these best & worst lists. Live in the state of Mississippi, retired, no taxes on my IRA withdrawals, Social Security and private pension income. Cost of living is great. I bass fish on beautiful lakes and left a state with huge pending population challenges in front of it while I tool around relaxed and will watch a movie tomorrow morning in a state of the art movie theatre. One of our past governors made the decision to entice retirees to the state knowing there was no way to get IBM to move its HQS here. Smart. Stats for SE states since the Civil War are very misleading...
I know where you are. Every Friday night was the meeting at the P.O. in Walland.
That old one lane bridge just before the Parkway. I guess most of those are gone by now. River Road was the home of famous submarine races. :^)
I live in New Mexico and we have a high crime rate because of illegal immigration and drug importation. BUILD THE WALL!
On a good note, our church cameras helped catch a potentially dangerous bank robber. This was his 3rd armed bank robbery. They were able to identify the car and caught him 60 miles away.
Our county went for Trump.
The one lane bridges across the Little River (at Townsend and Walland) are still there, but are only available to foot traffic. There are two lane bridges now nearby for vehicular traffic.
Thank you! I now have my top 10 states to retire from NJ to..
What an appalling, snobbish, condescending article! Typical NBC...
I hope Georgia is on the ‘worst states for LIBERALS to live’ list! :-)
There was a time when walking bridges went across.
Closer to Townsend. Condemned long ago. That is a good place.
A bit rough and tumble back in the day. I enjoyed every minute of it. The mountains can speak a sort of freedom.
You cannot get that from the city. Make sure you do the caverns while you can. Tuckaleechee is amazing. Do the Lost Sea as well, you will be impressed.
Lawton and Tulsa Oklahoma have a lot to be said for them.
So does Edmond. Great town..few muzzies and no ferals...and, we fly the flag with pride.
Have been to Tuckaleechee. Lost Sea is a bit farther afield. The family has been there, but I haven’t.
Here is one little fact-oid that most don’t know.......
The Emerald Coast of Florida has the whitest beaches anywhere.
It is Crystal Quartz from the Tennessee River of the Great Smokies.
Just go. You will be amazed.
Yup. Lived in Cedar Bluff for 23 years. Moved to our new mountain home in Cosby last year. It’ll be a long time before the “Revenuers” come up our Holler!
Get rid of Austin ...

And Dallas, Frisco, Plano, San Antonio and Houston!
“Dont forget about our beautiful rivers and streams, especially Cotaco Creek, I spent five hours paddling the creek in my canoe today.”
Correct. I grew up in Northwest Alabama (Marion County) and there were no shortages of rivers, streams and waterfalls.
Beautiful area.
Jealous, are we?
Poor little troll.
Don’t bother with that idiot.
Just ignore it.
Actually my ESP put the individual close to 280lbs and quite liberal.
Lets all watch.
