My 97 year olf mother passed on recently. I am going through many old photos etc. I have blocked out name and number of my father who was a WWII Vet. Has anyone seen this gov't issue copper social security card before?

Thank you. I am finding os many, many things!
Most special to me was a New Testament given to my father by the Young Adult Sunday School class at church. This had a metal cover and was to be carried in the pocket over his heart

I remember seeing them advertised regularly 50 years ago in Parade Magazine, Spencer’s Gifts, and similar publications. You know, right next to the Rosicrucian ads. There was a small fee by the sellers, I don’t remember how much. A couple bucks. They were not government issued.

I have. My late father showed me his father’s. And there was another metal one printed in color that was produced for a short time.

This N.T. was given as he enlisted in WWII for the Army Air Corp

Yes, my family has one from a relative who received it in the 1930s.

My dad had one. Mail order. Back when it was safe to flaunt you SSN on checks, drivers licenses etc...

In WWII, this is the 'Shield and New Testament' that soldiers wore in their shirt pocket over their heart. The 'Shield' metal cover was to serve as protection from bullets. Quick access of the New Testament served as protection for their souls. He was Methodist, but The Church of God had a baseball team!

I only saw “Tis” briefly. Then, she hit me as hard as she could in both eyes. After the swelling went down, I could see again, but Tis was gone and I never saw her again.

My mother was only 73. Dad passed recently from Agent Orange complications.
I miss them every day, but the passage of time helps with the heartache. Try to find something that keeps you busy.

I had one that didn’t quite look like that. I don’t think they were “govt issue” though. Back then, you could have duplicates made in brass.
