One night in the mid-1990s I tried out a computer game called “Civilization.” You started with a screen that was completely black, except for one square of land. As you pushed outward from this base, you’d make discoveries about the land around you and its inhabitants. You’d start to build a society, first primitive stuff like granaries, then advancing to roads and weapons.
Trade-offs would arise: Should I build a library or a cannon? As your world advanced, you’d run into other civilizations. It was disconcerting to discover somebody else had a battleship while you were working with catapults. As I was journeyed through all of these fascinating challenges, I discovered to my surprise that the sun had come up. Something had gone haywire with time. It was already 7 a.m.
If you had asked me at any point in my relationship to “Civilization” whether I was happy, I would have said no. I was ecstatic.

It is actually kind of embarrassing how much I have played Civilization III and Civilization V in my life.
But they are just so good!
Ok l confess v-games remain a guilty pleasure because...well, war never changes and Abstergo must be stopped.
There are two games that literally had me addicted :-). One was Pirates! on my Commodore 64. I recall playing it 5 days straight w/o many breaks. I had to give it away.
I then bought the remastered Pirates that came out around 2005. After a 48 hour marathon, I had to uninstall it. Haven’t played it since.
Those games are incredible. I wish I had the self control to enjoy them :-). Such a simple premise with incredible depth.
That’s about the extent of how I can relate to the author of this article :-).
That goomba ain’t gonna stomp itself. And the Vic Viper doesn’t have autopilot.
Besides, maybe they will be inspired by an Italian plumber :)
I don’t think so. Where have we lost them to? They’re still around. I still see a few around.
Most have become (fairly) normal human beings.
Worry more about them losing their sense of values to a corrupt educational system.
Times have changed. Men’s dens used to contain books, a desk, and an armchair. Today men’s “man caves” contain tvs, video game systems, foosball, etc. I’m an old fuddy duddy ... I don’t think the change is for the better.
Considering a good majority of Women nowadays are either Leftist or Ice Cash Registers, video games are a good substitute.
I think I started with Sim City I. Godzilla ate my town and I didn’t look back.

they must be getting really desperate for headlines.
Almost got hooked on video games until I learned about “cheat codes”. It lost all appeal to me. I can cheat at solitaire and it’s much cheaper.
I know of about 10-15 men in the 28-35 range and everyone of them but one is useless.
Its NOT video games...it is the Pre-College education which had them bored to tears.
When your brain is being filled with useless junk, young men find something else to stimulate it.
Sex and Video games.
Frankly if I was 25 right now, I wonder if I would have been wise enough to stop following my friends to a useless life.
Looks like this author’s real problem isn’t men enjoying video games... This author’s real problem is that men are beginning to refuse to become slaves to women!
I’ll admit to spending a little more time than I should have playing the Fallout series some nights, but it hasn’t negatively impacted my life.
Video games don’t turn men into rat-race debt slaves...
Western women and “marriage” does.
My brain works differently. No attention span whatsoever for video games, no reward value whatsoever for winning them. Plus the heavy motion games like racing make me nauseated.
That reminds me.
Far Cry 5 is coming out next February.
Civ3 rocks. Never tried PTW, though.....
