One of the oldest student-owned food cooperatives in America is crowdfunding to stay afloat, according to an impassioned plea for donations.

Its mortal enemy? Popular and profitable organic-food chains. Its salvation? Protecting students from the unsafe world of a Washington, D.C. suburb.

What if the food’s good? Maybe it isn’t.

And soon comes the collectivist refrain: “this time we’ll get it right.

How can you identify a socialist?

He/she/it/whatever is standing in a bucket and pulling the handle and expecting to go up.

The young socialists are learning a tough lesson...you can’t run a business without covering the cost of operation plus having some “profit” in reserve for emergencies like equipment failure. Now they have to seek other people’s money to keep their doomed “business” afloat. Too bad none will learn anything about basic economics from this doomed enterprise.

A lot of our worker-owners, including myself, have families, and supporting them is now scary.

Ya think?

If you pay your bills from essentially community theater then you should be scared b/c YOU ARE AN IDIOT.

The world does not suffer fools lightly.

“Since the beginning, we have been a non-hierarchical business run by our democratic collective process,” the co-op website states.

How many read that, and thought of this scene?:

Woman: I didn’t know we ‘ad a king! I thought we were autonomous collective.

Man: (mad) You’re fooling yourself! We’re living in a dictatorship! A
self-perpetuating autocracy in which the working classes—

Woman: There you go, bringing class into it again...

Man: That’s what it’s all about! If only people would—

Arthur: Please, *please*, good people, I am in haste! WHO lives in that
castle?

Woman: No one lives there.

Arthur: Then who is your lord?

Woman: We don’t have a lord!

Arthur: (surprised) What??

Man: I *told* you! We’re an anarcho-syndicalist commune! We’re taking turns to act as a sort of executive-officer-for-the-week—

Arthur: (uninterested) Yes...

Man: But all the decisions *of* that officer ‘ave to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting—

Arthur: (perturbed) Yes I see!

Man: By a simple majority, in the case of purely internal affairs—

Arthur: (mad) Be quiet!

Man: But by a two-thirds majority, in the case of more major—

Arthur: (very angry) BE QUIET! I *order* you to be quiet!

Woman: “Order”, eh, ‘oo does ‘e think ‘e is?

Arthur: I am your king!

Woman: Well I didn’t vote for you!

Arthur: You don’t vote for kings!

Woman: Well ‘ow’d you become king then?

(holy music up)

Arthur: The Lady of the Lake— her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. THAT is why I am your king!

Man: (laughingly) Listen: Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government! Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some... farcical aquatic ceremony!

Arthur: (yelling) BE QUIET!

Man: You can’t expect to wield supreme executive power just ‘cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!!

Arthur: (coming forward and grabbing the man) Shut *UP*!

It’s a victim of bad management.

In my small town there is a food Co-Op that is nonprofit.

It sells most things for more than I could buy them for in other stores, however it has many items that only they have, and the produce is excellent.

It does very well.

I always liked buying spices and the like in bulk, writing the PLU # on a tag then attaching it to the small bag of spice...I almost always wrote ‘Impeach Obama’ on another tag and stuck it at eye level somewhere in the store. Made ‘em mad as hell from what I gather...Now it’s TRUMP - MAGA!

My favorite line of that scene:

Because of the restaurant’s profit-sharing model, some workers have been forced to go without paychecks.

It appears they missed History class in the 3rd grade, Governor William Bradford tried this a long time ago and we celebrate it’s demise every November.

I guess it’s okay to take money...as long as it’s not the customers’ money.

Like, wow, man...don't these people know they're supposed to be getting $15/hr or more?! Why aren't their "comrades" leaving piles of cash on the counter for them?

Very surprised they lasted this long.

When I went to UMCP back in the 1980s, it was called the Maryland Food Co-op, and even though it is a leftoid organization, it had good food. I suppose it still does.
