This island finally floated back to the surface after the tragic capsizing because too many people were on one side of it once. Glad to see.
Let’s not make the same mistake with Guam.
Lived on an island that was at the confluence of 3 rivers; over the years, the island became a spit and the spit turned into a dardanelle. Mother nature had her way. :)
Ya think China is behind it? :)
This is why we can’t keep our legally acquired firearms safe.... keep losing them when an island capsizes. :(
Lucky for us, we had a U.S. Congressman to call it to our attention, before it became a mistake.
Recently in the same area, another island lost a mile of land. There are trees strewn across the shallows for a long way.
I don’t know what caused it but if you give the UN 25 percent of US gdp they can stop it, maybe.
Clearly this new island is DISPLACING sea water - which will make the overall sea level RISE (an imperceptible amount)!
Don't be silly.
China's below it!
I hope it doesn’t tip over.
This new "island" is looking like it wants to be just an extension of the point. I'm thinking the next major storm will have a say in whether that happens...
But, either way, perhaps we should at least wait until after the hurricane season before we start pounding the pilings for that new vacation house? :-)
They get inundated in a thunderstorm, that’s why all the houses are on 12’ pilings. Inlets come, inlets go. Houses get washed away, new ones are built. It’s been that way since records have been kept, over 400 years. They’re fragile in a sense but in another sense they’re not. They’re giant sandbars. They move.
That said, countdown until somebody from New Jersey gets their Acura “AWD” stuck on it and swamped by high tide. Go to Oregon Inlet Idiots to see just why I say that.
Have fun. Growing up I used to fish at the point every year for a week.
Maybe it’ll stabilize and form a bight like at Cape Lookout, that’s a very cool, beautiful place, such incredibly clear aqua water. Sounds as if it’s already acquired a reputation for seashells, by the somewhat uncreative name. Wonder if it’s walkable across to it at low tide?
Army Corp should save it. Put up 20’ levies. Need plenty of fill. What could go wrong
Thank you for those great photos; it really puts it all into perspective, literally!
Now we know where all the sand from beach erosion went.
*If you dig a hole deep enough, you would eventually find yourself in China...*

WOW!
I’ve always wondered where/what was on “the other side!”
Thank You.
