Denied: Bruce Davis (before and today), has had his parole blocked by California governor Jerry Brown. It is the fifth time he has been recommended for parole only for it to be blocked

LOS ANGELES (AP) — California Gov. Jerry Brown on Friday night blocked parole for Charles Manson follower and convicted killer Bruce Davis.

Brown’s rejection issued late Friday night is the fifth time Davis has been recommended for parole by a state panel only to see it blocked by a governor, and continues Brown’s unflinching pattern of refusing to allow anyone from Manson’s “family” to be freed.

On Feb. 1, the parole panel recommended release for the 74-year-old Davis, who is serving a life sentence for the 1969 slayings of musician Gary Hinman and stuntman Donald “Shorty” Shea. Davis was not involved in the more notorious killings of actress Sharon Tate and six others by Manson’s group.

Brown in his written decision acknowledges the factors that led the board to recommend parole for Davis: His efforts to improve himself, his academic progress, and 25 years with no discipline for misconduct.

Originally sentenced to death, commuted to life in prison when the California Supreme Court overturned the death penalty, and he has been recommended for parole five times. Gotta love the justice system.

46 years in prison isn’t long enough.

Ooops, nevermind, he apparently got life in prison originally. I should have confirmed my recollection before posting.

The only reason Brown and Democrats would block a Manson murderer is for the race issue. They love murderers otherwise and are all for releasing them, but this is an exeption. And the wait is on for who will follow Atkins to hell.

Even a broken clock is right once in his life.

Lucky for the population of California that Davis is white. It he’d been a black he would be out and on the speaker’s circuit.

But Moonbeam, these are you fellow Freaks. C’mon Brother, let one of your own kind go, let him have his few years remaining to celebrate diversity, high taxes, prices, illegals, climate change, et al

In fact, after all these years in the slammer, he’s probably homosexual now. And you are discriminating against homosexuals by keeping him in prison Let him add to the “Pride” in your state and stop your bigotry now

Brown should remember that this guy would make a great Democrat candidate. He should have made a deal for the guy to released only if he moved into a district where they couldn’t find a candidate.
Once in Sacramento he could stop in on Brown and they could talk about the good old days together.

Academic progress and no discipline problems? Pretty low bar. But then...California.

Or if the person is a man. They release the women who do the same thing. Plus they get shorter sentences than men for the same thing as well.

All parole boards should be abolished and the money spent on them used to build more and larger prisons. No one should ever be let out early. If convicted the felon needs to be locked up for the entire sentence.
