A NOTE ABOUT JULIUS CAESAR AT THE DELACORTE

A NOTE ABOUT JULIUS CAESAR AT THE DELACORTE

The Public Theater stands completely behind our production of Julius Caesar. We understand and respect the right of our sponsors and supporters to allocate their funding in line with their own values. We recognize that our interpretation of the play has provoked heated discussion; audiences, sponsors and supporters have expressed varying viewpoints and opinions.

Such discussion is exactly the goal of our civically-engaged theater; this discourse is the basis of a healthy democracy. Our production of Julius Caesar in no way advocates violence towards anyone. Shakespeare's play, and our production, make the opposite point: those who attempt to defend democracy by undemocratic means pay a terrible price and destroy the very thing they are fighting to save. For over 400 years, Shakespeare’s play has told this story and we are proud to be telling it again in Central Park.

My reply to them. If your production does not advocate violence to the president, then subsitute Obama for Trump. If you do not want to do blackface paint, then do Clinton. But of course that is not possible to you &&&&&tards.

Imagine a rendition of Macbeth with the main character being based on Obama, Lady Macbeth on Michelle, and Macduff on Trump, and what the reaction would be. It is impossible to imagine, of course, because Delacourt would never think of doing it, as it should have never thought of doing Julius Caesar as it did.

BS! They associate Trump with a dictator and promote his death at the hands of those who consider themselves to be judge, jury, and executioner. They offer no evidence that Trump intends to seek dictatorial powers and then claim a democratic right to execute their effigy.

If the New York Times, CNN and Time Warner depicted your assignation, would you let them in your house? Would you let your staff talk to them? Why the Hell does Trump?

If that wasn’t the People’s Republic of New York, I’d kind of expect citizens to put an end to the “production” by showing up armed and announcing that it’s being called off by “We the People.” But, except for the Trump family, real Americans are scarce in that place.

Ask the weenies, if they’re planning to run Othello with Obama as the lead with James Comey as Iago.

If it weren’t for double standards, they’d have no standards at all.

Of course, this is exactly how the Left responded when Satan was portrayed by an actor who resembles Obama, and when a rodeo clown wore an Obama mask.

Hypocrites.

You need hip-waders to navigate this BS.

I love Shakespeare, but one of my pet peeves is directors who set a play in modern times. To me it's a needless gimmick that usually degenerates into whatever commentary the director wants to make about modern society or politics.

Trump has done nothing by undemocratic means. But if one analogizes Trump with Julius Caesar, the assassins were hunted down and killed. Caesar became a hero, and his family founded an empirical dynasty that lasted hundreds of years and ruled the known world.

This is the same New York City that “honored” the murdering terrorist Oscar Rivera as grand marshal of the Puerto Rican Day Parade where he was to be designated the “National Freedom Hero”. He and his bunch killed at least six Americans in bombings, blinded an NYC cop, and he is a real piece of non-repetant trash, just like the gorks that organize this idiotic play which I am certain will be very popular with the jerks that live in Manhattan.

That would be Moor than he could handle.

I suggested Macbeth earlier, but the better play would be The Emperor Jones. OTOH, even though it was from O'Neill whose work liberals usually support, this is one where they would scream white privilege and never let it be staged.

THEN HOW THE #### DID YOU MISS OUT ON AN OBAMA ACTORS BEING KILLED BY 10 KKK MEMBERS?!??!

That would have led to HUGE HUGE HUGE discussions.

I thought so.

You mother ####ing traitors.

We are SURROUNDED by traitors. From without and from within.

At least in most venues of power.

They will regret this TERRIBLY if they keep pushing.

Our production of Julius Caesar in no way advocates violence towards anyone.
What is that rule, the one used to paint Trump a liar because Sarah Huckabee said "He is not a liar."

You aren't having a good day when you volunteer on your own behalf, "We in no way advocate violence towards anyone."

Can you imagine how they would have reacted to a similar murder in theater effigy with then-President Obama?

They should show that they really mean tolerance by having a couple of their assassins sodomize each other on stage. After all, one must not be homophobic in addition to NeverTrump. Anything less proves that they’re a fraud and that they don’t really mean it.
