A University of Iowa professor recently argued that appreciation of “white marble” used in classical artwork contributes to “white supremacist ideas today.” Professor Sarah Bond demonstrates in an article published in Hyperallergic that “many of the statues, reliefs, and sarcophagi created in the ancient Western world were in fact painted,” meaning the “white marble” often seen in such pieces of art were intended to be colored.

What’s more, IIRC, Greek statuary was “clothed” on display yet I remember well an AG that was mocked loudly for robing the statuary in Congress.

They aincent Greek society was pretty much all white anyway, AFAIK. I am sure color was not a factor other than pure white marble is a more attractive and stable medium for sculpting, just as one would begin a painting on a white canvas or paper.
No! It was intended to be marble of color.

Caught the last few minutes of a tv show this morning stating Mount Rushmore was white supremacy. Ok, fine, playing that card means the Crazy Horse monument is red supremacy.
