The Great State of Texas is sure proud of our Shiner and local craft beers (No Label)... but I am sure jealous of all my Boston area FRiends who can get Harpoon.

The previous thread had quite a bit of Schlitz memorabilia posted, and some comments on how it was ruined at some point, so let's start here where we left off.
When you are out of Schlitz, you're out of beer

Anyone else remember "Blatz"?
Apparently still available, perhaps only in Milwaukee?

Schlitz became a business school case study of what NOT to do.
They let the bean-counters make product decisions. In order to save a few cents per bottle they switched one ingredient. The flavor was unchanged but it had a side effect of causing proteins(?) to precipitate out.
When drinkers poured out a bottle they found sludge plop into their glass (or mouth). It was totally harmless but also totally disgusting.
The end result was they had to recall millions of bottles of beer to be destroyed. What also was destroyed was the reputation of Schlitz - and they never recovered.
The lesson is NEVER let accountants/finance people make product decisions.

Didn’t say “great”, “good” or outstanding brewery. just “old” With a pretty Hall of Horns display in the pub.

Ahh ... Falstaff. That was my first beer. My dad bought me my first one when we were returning home from a fruitless day of deer hunting in Michigan.
Good beer, and good memories.

Pabst had a small advertising campaign when they brought back the Schlitz original formula featuring Cynthia Myers, Playboy Playmate from Dec 68'.
