I met two people with this mental illness (men thinking they were women, not shoe salesmen thinking they were doctors) before it became stylish. Both had a large number of mental problems beyond their denial of science. Now their lives are even worse - cutting off healthy parts of their bodies and still not doing anything about their mental problems.
