I remember going into an EE class (Univ of Fla, 1974 probably) and the topic the prof. immediately started talking about was the headlines of the student newspaper that morning. Seems some law students got caught doing a similar thing to what the UK students were trying.
The conclusion presented in class was that since they were law students, the thieves should all have been awarded law degrees with honors. The take was they all excelled in learning what it took to be a successful lawyer and that they should be out doing what lawyers do.
Bet they get “Double Secret Probation.”

For all kinds of reasons I never had the urge to cheat...firstly didn’t have a clue how to do it and lastly never wanted my kids to ever think I ever did even have such a thought.
this is a funny post however because since becoming a “professor” (yes, really) I had many students who thought it might be fun to see if they could. ....I suppose some got away with it. Gads.
