David Dao and United Airlines Reach ‘Amicable’ Settlement [tr]

"We look forward to implementing the improvements we have announced, which will put our customers at the center of everything we do."

"We breached public trust, and it's a serious breach," Munoz said in an exclusive interview earlier Thursday with NBC News' Lester Holt, adding that he had introduced changes at the company because "a circumstance like we've all witnessed should have never happened, never happened."

The airline also unveiled new policies early Thursday morning, including a promise to not use law enforcement to remove overbooked customers from planes, additional training for front-line employees and setting up an automated system that will ask passengers at check-in if they would be willing to give up their seat.

Munoz also pledged to reduce the amount of overbooking and offer up to $10,000 for customers willing to volunteer to take a later flight.

This is shocking! Dozens of FReepers repeatedly assured us that United would end up suing Dao because he failed to read the fine print on his ticket which explicitly stated the unconditional right of any and all United employees and any rent-a-cops they might utilize to brutalize seated passengers for any reason the Captain chooses because of his god-like powers that exceed all other law or authority, and that any seated customer who resisted such arbitrary brutalization for any reason whatsoever was simply trolling for a big lawsuit settlement that they had been planning for weeks in advance.

Well, sorry...the good Doctor DID score a HUGE financial settlement. His attorney had United by the short hairs and knew it.

I’m thinking he got more than a business class upgrade voucher.

United would have paid out less money to Dr. Dao, or al least to his estate, if they had let him stay on the plane and then killed him by intentionally crashing the plane.

But for the 7-10 million United paid to Dr. Dao, he will be as quiet as if they had killed him.

I do remember one saying he wouldn’t win.

Well, he did. In essence.

United’s lawyers probably told the the airline executives, “It would have been cheaper to kill him.”

“Well, sorry...the good Doctor DID score a HUGE financial settlement.”

Well, what say you about THIS part of things, the part unrelated to the lawsuit? Why would United take these actions if tDao was at fault and United blameless?

“Lesson.”

“Yell and scream like a two year old, throw tantrum and get a pay day.”

Or the lesson could be, stand-up for your own rights against an abusive authority and make them pay when the deploy police state tactics against you.

Not worth it for them.

He screwed everybody else over.

If I were on that plane I’d sue him.

No, the airline screwed everybody else over.

However, Dao is worth around $7 million more than he was worth prior to the incident and he can’t talk about it.

Yeah.

The felon who ought to gave been deported a long time ago pulled off another good scam.

And all the others got their plans messed up because he’s so special.

Thrown in jail?

What crime did he commit?
