My favorite is "Oh Yeah". It always reminds me of the summer of '79. While on a TDY assignment that summer, I developed friendships with many local townsfolk, to include a very special woman.

During my last two years in Germany, I spent many a long weekend driving 400 miles from my apartment in Traben-Trarbach to Lutjenberg, a town about 30 miles east of Kiel. It was only a five hour drive, thanks to the autobahn.

I fondly remember how she fell in love with the music of Dire Straits,
"There's a band playing on the radio
With a rhythm of rhyming guitars"

Close enough for me.

We did a lot of driving that summer, she joined me on a few trips to Bremerhaven, 200 miles from the base. Had to go there twice a week to coordinate support, turn in mess hall money, etc.

About 16 months ago, my wife and I went to see Frankie Valli at Winstar Casino. A bit after midnight, I saw a few of his band members in one of the bars. I toasted them with "Prosit Neu Jahre", Happy New Year in German.

Next thing I know, their sax player starts rapping at me in German. Thanks to bands like Roxy Music, I impressed him and his mates with my knowledge of the European music scene in the late 70s. We also shared our experiences of working and living in Germany during that time.

2nd that. Such a great LP.

What else great from the 80s?

Bowie’s Let’s Dance comes to mind.

Behold the power of Bryan Ferry: Let’s Stick Together” was used by BBC2 as the theme for the series “Manchild” in the early 2000s. Hearing that awesome song tricked me into watching a rather awful program more than I care to admit...

Thank you so much. Introduced to the music of the 80’s by my daughters. David Bowie, Brian Ferrie, Billy Idol and others who I really enjoyed.

However, I belonged to Elvis and there was nothing they could do;) They tried. LOLO!!!!!!

Phil Manzanera was guitars and Andy Mackey on sax as I remember. They really were an amazing band. Such style People in the US have heard of them, but in Europe they were superstars.

Isn’t Avalon a rip off of More Than This, or vice versa?

Had no idea that John Wetton was in Roxy Music, he was in one of my favorite bands of the 80’s, Asia.

John Wetton passed away last January 31 from Colon cancer at the age of 67.

One of my favorite tunes is “Is Your Love Strong Enough”, Bryan Ferry and David Gilmour from the Legend soundtrack.

That is a very good album. I guess it really comes down to what kind of music you like. I love Funk, Reggae, New Wave and Punk. Big Audio Dynamite’s first album is a favorite of mine. I really liked INXS’ Listen Like Thieves. I saw Bowie on the Glass Spider tour and it is one of favorite concerts. I saw Robert Plant on July 4th at Red Rocks, it was a great show. Lots to chose from :)

The whole album “Flesh and Blood” is pretty much great. Roxy’s last two albums before Ferry went solo were just amazing. Roxy was supposed to play Red Rocks on the Avalon tour and cancelled because Ferry had laryngitis. I would have been at that show.

Of course some of the best work Bryan ever did wasn’t actually done by Bryan. I am referring of course to the Hitcher episode of Mighty Boosh, if you like scatological British humor I highly recommend it.

Just saw him here two weeks ago. AMAZING show. A mix of Roxy Music and solo songs. Couldn’t believe it when I heard he was 70 after the concert....

Don’t feel bad, Bryan’s solo tour was in Dallas last month, and I missed it.
