Tornado threat for tomorrow for southeast and the Ohio Valley
NOAA Storm Prediction Center ^ | April 4, 2017

Posted on 04/04/2017 6:26:54 PM PDT by rdl6989

An outbreak of severe thunderstorms is likely Wednesday across much of the Southeast, continuing northward along and west of the Appalachians into the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys. This will include supercell development with a risk for tornadoes, some of which will be strong and long-lived, particularly across the Southeast. Large to very large hail and damaging straight-line winds also appear likely.

Local schools are out. “Luv Guv” has declared state of emergency. Heard local talker saying the WS was predicting golf ball sized hail in some areas.

Stay safe, peeps!

Our governor has already declared an emergency warning for the whole state tomorrow. This area knows to keep up with the weather when a tornado is in the forecast. I sent texts to my daughter, my grandson and granddaughter to keep an eye on the weather. We do not need any surprises.

Lost my 87 yo Gramma Bess 43 years ago yesterday in the Super Outbreak of "74 in Indiana.

She was crocheting a blanket in her sunroom under where that semi trailer landed.

Schools in Huntsville and elsewhere closing. Just saw even Auburn is canceling classes tomorrow. Both my kids are down there.

I have never lived in a tornado area (Eastern MA) but find them terrifying-—we had ONE big one in 1953 and I have feared them ever since.

I’m sooo sorry. :( Lived through that. Almost hit our house. Literally jumped over it. Terrifying.

I will say.....it’s not as warm in our area as in ‘74. It was TROPICAL back then.....so maybe a good sign.

We lived 12 miles away and never knew it happened until an uncle from Chicago called us to ask about the reports he saw on the news.

I teach at Auburn. It is a day off tomorrow!

Seriously, pray for the South. We do not need a repeat of April 27, 2011. On that day, almost 250 people in Alabama lost their lives.

I was looking it up on line . . . back in the dorm they went to the entrance of the stairwell on first floor & hallway area . . . 3rd floor apartment for daughter and 2nd floor for son. I looked up Lee County and they ONLY have 3 shelters and none sounded like much of a capacity. Last time I think they opened up the library on campus so maybe they can head there. I will be texting them tonight and hopefully this super cell will breakup some before tomorrow.

Thanks for the prayers~!!!

Just use your common sense and learn to read radar patterns.

The morons running our schools didn’t let the kids out one time. I was watching radar and it was going to put the ‘hook echo’ right over at pick-up time. I tore to the school and checked them out. SURE ‘NUFF.....the school went into lockdown at 3:00 and parents in cars were left to fend for themselves. Partly tore off a roof, thank God. No one hurt.

Yes we had no power for 7 days and many students in our area were in Tuscaloosa where I believe many of the lives were lost.

Check the local churches nearby. Sometimes they have fortified basements. I know surrounding Auburn is pretty rural.
