“Nights at White Castle” - from KSHE 95

My most memorable White Castle experience was the one at the corner of 16th Street and Lafayette Rd. in Speedway Indiana right outside the gates of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at 3:30 a.m. the night before the 1980 Indy 500.

Every year when I land at Wier Cook, the first order of business is to pull in to the nearest White Castle (Washington st near the airport) for some gut bombs to clean out my pipes. An hour later I question why. Cause, I always get one too many.

When I was a kid the White Castle near my grandparents house in daBronx, on Boston Rd near Allerton Av

Know the area quite well. The White Castle is still there. Used to take the Pelham Bay line to work in Manhattan each day when I lived on East Tremont Ave, back in the 70s. T/here was an Italian deli across the street. Joe kept 2 Neapolitan Mastiffs in his shop. One night, a burglar broke in. The dogs sat quietly. Once the perp entered the store, one pulled him to the floor and the other stood guard until morning when Joe, the owner, returned.

Wish I had one of those. Someone and his buddy snuck up behind the police station and put those stickers and NORML bumper stickers on two of the squads. They drove around for several days before they noticed.

The “K” signifies that station is west of the Mississippi river. Those stations east of the river start with the letter “W”.

Thanks for confirming the prices, I always had a memory of 5 cents. We would spend Saturday night at Grandma’s with a few other cousins usually, then she would take us to the Hampton Rd WC in St. Louis for breakfast. It was kinda like it’s own communion...

So was I!

Later, had a "Totes" bag I could pack with sliders on the way to the airport after the race weekend.

Still go to the race but buy my W.C. from the local freezer section. That way I always have them!
