Professor Stephen Hawking says he is planning to travel into space on Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic.

The physicist and cosmologist, 75, said he had not expected to have the opportunity to experience space but that the Virgin boss had offered him a seat.

Discussing the meaning of happiness on Good Morning Britain, he said: 'My three children have brought me great joy.

'And I can tell you what will make me happy, to travel in space.

'I thought no one would take me but Richard Branson has offered me a seat on Virgin Galactic, and I said yes immediately.'

Hope he stays up there. Most overrated scientist in history. And a vile anti-Semite as well (totally unreported)

I'm glad he has the opportunity to travel into space, since he has given much to the scientific and mathematical communities.

As a kid, I was fascinated by astronomy and space, and wanted to be an astronaut. I did have the good fortune to be able to design some spacecraft electronics that made it into a few communications satellites back in the 80's, so I am fulfilled. But yeah, it would be cool to go into space.

And come back, of course.

That's most unfortunate. How do you happen to know that for a fact, given that it is "totally unreported"? Other sources?

I guess he’s taking it a step further than the ‘I’m moving to Canada if Trump wins’ crowd.

IMHO, Hawking has been in space for a good number of years now, without the benefit of a capsule. What he knows or doesn’t know about physics aside, he is a creep.

It’s a fact. And it’s not unreported how he signed on to the BDS (boycott, divest, sanction) anti-Israel movement.

I don’t believe he would survive the trip to space. He could handle a high-level plane ride.

He is no more worthy than anyone to seek a space flight.

His left wing politics , in practice, would have sunk the scientific community.

I’m guessing someone will go with him to help with his cleaning and natural functions. Considering how difficult a journey it would be, it doesn’t sound practical.

He’s trying to escape.

He’s recently been running his sump about how he “doesn’t feel welcome in American anymore because of Trump”.

And Canada is starting to close up the easy ports of entry. Mr. Cripple can’t exactly tromp across the boonies to illegally enter Canada.

My thoughts exactly. Who’s gonna feed him and clean him up?

He’s trying to escape.

I attended a public lecture of his at Fermilab, in Batavia IL, some years ago.He entertained questions and formulated his answers on his keypad, whatever it was at that time. The audience would be in a murmur until his answer began, at which point of course they fell instantly silent.

Just to give you an idea of the ambience.

At some point, I think in his original presentation, he described the experience of an "astronaut", I believe, falling into a black hole, and being being ripped asunder by the tidal forces.

I don't recall the terms he used, exactly, but at the time I felt it was a personal expression of his particular situation, however unconscious it might have been, and I felt for him then, and the feeling continues.

So in my own mind, I continue to grant him the greatest latitude in regard to his expressions. Just sayin'...

Space would be right up his alley.

His three children have made him very happy.

His going into space will make him happy.

And yet the “genius” thinks the idea of a Christian God is for “people who are afraid of the dark”

His job is to seek answers yet he never questions where the hell everything he studies came from.

What a ####.

Reminds me of Sagan during Reagan’s tenure

Sagan was once in a discusssion with an esteemed colleague. Sagan asked this person, “If you are so smart, why do you believe in God?” His colleague responded, “If you are so smart, how come you don’t?”

Your tag line, Monty Python and the Holy Grail? The movie seen, again, just this weekend. And yes, the black knight still fights.
