Tell Her No.
Wow.
I can barely look at that - it makes me dizzy in a way.
A pronounced curve of the horizon would be more appropriate at that distance.
I was only about 10 feet up and coming down without the safety belt when the gaff failed to sink in. The hard part was making myself let go of the pole. Only got a few splinters, but they were all from trying to hug the pole for the first foot or two.
Makes one wonder why they haven't thought to create a "carousel" with 5 bulbs which can be cycled from the ground to perform replacements at the very top 1/5 as often...
I’d get up there and be like, “Damn, I needed a Phillips screwdriver!”
We should go up there and DRINK.
As the newbie (and college kid!) on the oil rig they had me check the “water table”. A box filled with water to keep the gears cool at the top of the rig. Climbed up there with a 5-gallon bucket of water - only about 150’ tall, but still!
After looking for a few minutes for where to pour the water in I realized I had been got. I thought about waiting for someone to show up below to dump the water on, but figured that would be a safety issue.
I got back down and poked my head into the dog house and said “Okay - I checked the water table - everything is A-okay! But one of you a**-holes should have made be bring a light bulb up there - ‘cuz that was out!” They got a laugh.
I was a little pissed on the climb down as I think I was supposed to be roped in - just an open ladder. Plus carrying the bucket. All “no-noes” in the OSHA book today. (Well that, and hosing off my entire body with clothing at the end of the day with a mix of water-soap-and diesel as most of the other guys did!)
I was able to catch them on a lot of their tricks, as a room mate had spent years on rigs and told me a lot of them ahead of time!
I sent it as an email titled same, “Crap, for got my Phillips”
or gosh dang it was the other the real funny looking base one
Oh, no way I would do it sober.
They say that one of the thrills of flying Concorde was that at its regular cruising altitude you could see the curvature of the earth.
Genesis 14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
