Chris Mullin and John Thompson screamed at each other and the St. John’s and Georgetown players at Madison Square Garden seemed near to blows as cheer leaders scattered and referees started issuing technical fouls and a flagrant and screamed at players to separate.

Hopefully Jr. Thompson does not get data to go after Mullin. :) I remember during the glory days of the real Big East how St. Johns with Mullin going against Papa Thompson's Georgetown was the hottest ticket in town.

No. 1 vs. No. 2 one year. 1985 I believe

NEVER liked G-Town, esp during the Ewing years. Thug City (still is, thankfully, they lose their asses). So glad when Nova beat them, even though it was a fluke with so many teams then and now in the Tourney

Old joke:
“I went to a fight last night, and a hockey game broke out.”

1985, three of the four semi final teams were from the big east. Quite an accomplishment for that conference.

And coach for the Memphis, the other final four team in 1985, got into trouble for claiming to be the best non-Caholic college basketball team in the nation.

Have you seen the 30 For 30 documentary, Requiem for the Big East? One of the best.

I guess the white players got out of control.

I agree. That was very well done. Also had some good nostalgia aspects to it.

Remember a sign at one of the Big East games: Patrick Ewing Can Do Everything But Read This Sign!

A friend’s mother was a professor at Georgetown during those years. She said the joke was that Patrick Ewing’s major was Metro. Each year he studied a different color line (branch) of the DC Metro and for his senior year final exam, they would take him out to the suburbs and he would have to find his way back to the school.

Dittos. I REALLY disliked that punk Thompson, his stupid towel, and all that ‘Hoya Paranoia’ crap. Villanova’s win was my all time favorite from the NCAA tournament.
