Cell phones have become ubiquitous over the last few years, along with the debate over whether or not they can cause cancer.
While many agencies — including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Food and Drug Administration and National Institute of Environmental Health — say they’ve found no link between cancer and the electromagnetic fields emanated by cell phones, a newly-released document is reheating the argument.
It comes from the California Department of Public Health and is called “Cell Phones and Health.” It lists potential risks from cell phones to both adults and children.
The 2014 document was held back for years, but has now been released because of a court order.
Joel Moskowitz, Ph.D., the director of the Center for Family and Community Health at UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health, sued the state last year under the California Public Records Act. He did so in order to get the document released to the public.
Moskowitz calls the report something of a smoking gun.
“You ought to be concerned,” he said. “Children, pregnant women, and teenagers are potentially at greater risk from this form of radiation.” Still, CDPH officials insist it is a “draft,” not a final statement.
The report says that some ways to reduce exposure to electromagnetic fields, include increasing the distance between yourself and your phone, whether by using headphones or sending text messages, and by limiting your cell phone use altogether.
It’s tough for anyone to say for sure whether or not cell phones cause cancer, but the debate just got a little louder.

This story is going to be a memory like the Chandra Levy story.
A story that was once really big, but was completely swept from view by an infinitely bigger story.
I have a doctor family member who told me about a possible risk 30 years ago. Said he didn’t have ‘proof’ but that rare brain cancers were showing up in young people (meaning under the age of 60) and when he would ask them about habits all of them were heavy cellphone users. He dropped it when one study after another found no problem... Could have been flipping a penny and getting ‘tails’ six times in a row... might mean nothing.

When radioactive products were new to us, people made many mistakes. Watches with glowing radium markers on them were created by people who manually painted tiny amounts of radioactive radium on them in a factory. The painters would “tip” their brushes by touching the brush to their lips. Then, when they realized monsterous deforming cancerous tumors on their lips were due to radium - they changed how they manufactured watches. Medical xray equipment now use a fraction of the power originally used to reduce cancer risk. State of the art medical studies have documented health hazards posed by radiation. Skin cancer from the sun? Now we use sunblock as needed. We can make changes to protect our health. Why not investigate this issue objectively instead of hooting like howler monkeys that it’s all Kalifornia etc.? There’s a peculiar amount of desperate “shout down” every time this issue comes up.
I think it may come out later that certain models for reasons besides being cell phones increase cancer risk (radioactive batch of plastic cases?), but as a general rule I would think your cell phone is more likely to cause deafness than cancer.
Men have been wearing cells on their belts for decades now. If there were a problem, you’d expect a lot of hip cancers by now.
As a general rule, I like to review hard data, when available, to help inform what I think.

Because it’s been investigated multiple times and has been found to be 100% pure HOKUM. It’s a lie, there is no link between electromagnetics and cancer. PERIOD. There is no link between cellphones and cancer. PERIOD. There’s no shout down, it’s people being tired of a story that was stupid 20 years coming back for no good reason. All the stories are LIES, and all who perpetuate them are LIARS.
Your cellphone is more likely to cause pregnancy than cancer.

You are defending global warming - remember it’s “settled science” that people are “tired of hearing about? after 20 years of “proof.” Get it? The issue receives push back from people who don’t want the issue made public. That doesn’t prove it’s false - it proves it’s unpopular.
Why rage about a release of a report? Why shout?
I’m not shouting, I’m emphasizing important words you should pay attention to. And this has NOTHING to do with global warming. This is about simple reality, electromagnetic have been a constant part of our lives since the dawn of time, guess what that big yellow thing emits a LOT of. Then of course there’s TV and radio reception. Electric wires. Old fashioned phones. Headphones. If electromagnetic caused cancer we’d have died out a long time ago. There is no issue, it receives push back from LIARS who see the paranoia of the ignorant as a source of revenue.
I’m not against the report, I’m against the LIES miscasting the report to generate money from fools.
I was comparing your logic to the logic used to those who claim that global warming is a proven fact when it isn’t. Your logic re cell phones is as faulty as the logic used to silence debate about global warming.
Your logic regarding wires, tv’s, radio reception is likewise flawed. Cell phones magnify the risk by being placed against the body, exposure at closer proximity for longer periods of time, and for the higher level of energy involved. We know that cancer has increased with time and you are willing to assume that it CANNOT be at all related to technology. Inconceivable!
And it was a false comparison that showed you don’t understand the issue. The issue is very simple: we have been constantly bombarded by electromagnetic from day one, if they caused cancer, we’d all be dead.
No cellphones don’t magnify the risk. There’s two reasons that’s a stupid statement: 1 there is NO RISK. 2 - we’ve been sticking electromagnetic devices right on our skin for decades before cellphones every existed.
Cancer has increased in time because our life expectancy has increased in time. Cancer is a replication error, the longer you live the more you replicated your cells, eventually errors happen (actually the dirty little secret is these error happen CONSTANTLY, almost everyone you know has cancer, it’s just that most of the time the body eats it and nothing happens).
Nothing I’m saying is based on assumption. It’s all empirical evidence backed by piles of research spanning back decades. Electromagnetics do not cause cancer. Period. Anybody trying to tell you they do is lying to you, they’re probably trying to sell you something stupid. I laughed myself silly when those first hands free devices were marketed as a way around this, first they got people fearing the electromagnetics of the cellphone, then they charged them 40 bucks to stick a magnet IN THEIR EAR. Freaking hilarious.
Man, starting from the top of your post - the wheels just fall off your logic and yet you are so sure of yourself.
“if they caused cancer, we’d all be dead” Where did you get that? There are countless cancer causing agents that are not 100% lethal? Radiation, in particular, has a bell shaped curve effect on human health. A rule of thumb coming from the expertise of those who treated Chernobyl victims is that 10% of the population is highly sensitive to exposure, 10% is highly resistant to harmful effects of exposure, the rest are in the middle of the curve surviving or sickening or dying based on immunity, age, treatment etc. Take extreme, immediate exposure like the men in the control room at Chernobyl, about 7 or 8 died grisly deaths and one guy recovered and went on to live a long life. He’d also been exposed to radiation before on a Russian sub and he came through that too. Many of the effects of radiation exposure in the Ukraine fall short of death but result in poor health and suffering. So no, there’s no logic to the statement that these items would have caused us all to die. No truth at all.
You are apparently unaware of the reasons we all must sign liability wavers when we receive dental xrays or other radiologic services. The BEIR reports documenting decades of medical studies involving radiation and cancer will help you come up to speed on cancer in human populations. Happy reading.
