That’s me. SW South Dakota.
Just been busy, and with up to 12” of snow sitting in the thorolly frozen solid garden for the last few months, hasn’t been much to report, even if I had had the time. 2 week of whatever the chest crud going around was didn’t help, either.
Currently, it is very soft & deep mud, with a new, fine dusting of white. I did get the cherry pruned, as planned.
Excellent idea. Live trap for deer.
We’re having the wettest winter on record with 49” against a normal of 28” for this time of the year. We will be working in the garden today doing cleanup that should have been done by Feb 1st. It looks like I may lose the entire Garlic crop to rust.
That is a terrible shame about the garlic.
I didn’t get all of our Fall tilling done. Between weather and working 5 5-hour days, some things slide to the wayside.
49” of rain is almost unimaginable in such a short period, despite growing up in one of the wettest areas of California, the north end of Shasta Lake: 120+”/year. Amazing cloudburst thunderstorms in the Summer; interminable rains in the Winter & Spring. Dryish in the Fall, when we would hope for some rain or snow, to soften the dead leaves, so we could walk quietly while hunting.
Most of the leaves were oak, and a lot of them got moved aside, and the lower layer of leaf mold hauled to the garden. Yes, the newer leaves were then spread back out, to rot in their turn. Nature’s own compost.
My Russet Burbank seed taters have arrived; German Butterball hasn’t shipped yet. Starting with new seed this year.
