Just wondering what is causing the food shortage?
Weather here is so unpredictable. Record breaking high temperatures, low 80’s one day and possibility of snow flakes the next! Trees beginning to leaf out and pollen starting to appear on the ground. Daffies blooming to the max and so are pansies. Indoors have sowed seeds of parsley, tomato, lobelia, cucumber, lavender and rosemary. Had to spray for wasps as they were building a nest right over the front door!
Glad you are ok. Hope you are not near any of the Dams that have less than stellar infrastructure. I notice that the map of California shows that the drought is just about over, so at least there is that.
I am not sure who you are talking about from N. Dakota. If you remember the handle, let me know.
A 12 gauge? That’s a new one on me. LOL
I agree - a lot of work. Thanks for the pictures. Looks like a good start on the season.
Keep me posted, if you will. We haven’t made any starts yet, except for the tomato vines that I stuck in a pot to take new root at the end of the summer.
I use Walmart.com in preference to Amazon too, but sometimes it doesn’t have what I’m looking for. I also don’t like to buy stuff made in China, but sometimes that’s all I can find.
What type of solar chargers are you using?
Thanks for the pics. It looks so pretty. I tried out two buckets and one pot last year for my cukes and maters. It was better than the garden. Especially the cukes.
One small 6 inch pot grew all the cukes I needed for pickles and some fresh eating too. Hubby planted dozens of cukes, and got only 1 scrawny shriveled with spots cuke to show for it.
The cause varies, weather is one cause, too cool in the areas that traditionally grow the veggies for the winter. Also record flooding in some areas. Big infestation of army worms in Africa IIRC. Some countries soil depletion.
Of course the previous years of drought in California probably had an impact here, but we get so much from all over the world, that we haven’t seen shortages.
Argentina - one word - socialism. Mexico has several problems, and one is scarcity of gasoline - there have been riots and robbing of stores.
I’d have to go out in the shop and look. Just plain old solar fence chargers I bought at the farm store. I’ll go out after while and look at the brand.
Thanks everyone for the responses. I will check out those options.
Did you use the little dried peat pellets?
Yes I use the peat pellets that come in those kits at Wallyworld. I either use the 12 or 36 unit trays depending on what I’m planting to keep them organized. I label each tray and row ABC etc and write it down. Then when the plant looks big enough I transfer them to a coffee cut and fill it with Miracle Grow labeled L1, L2, K1, K2 etc to keep myself organized to what it is since I plant several tomato varieties and pepper varieties.
Forgot to finish. After I transplant I put them in the cold frame to grow larger and harden off.
He lived and gardened in Southern Oregon before moving to the Dakotas. His handle had Applegate in it I believe?

Seed potatoes are on their way; way too early to plant, of course.
Also picked out a sweet potato to sprout for slips.
Tomorrow or Monday, I’ll do a bit of pruning on the cherry; way too overgrown, and fruit size is suffering.
That’s what I did, and nothing sprouted, Couple of years ago, and I saw on some seed company website that the peat was too acid. And I’m talking just peppers. Been buying plants ever since, found a couple of sources and it’s a lot simpler. I have used them for other seed plantings with no problems.
